TV on the Radio - Young Liars - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

2003 5 track major indie tag debut EP. The Brooklyn-based group TV on the Radio mixes post-punk, electronic, and other atmospheric elements in such a creative way that it only makes sense that it's core duo, vocalist Tunde Adebimpe & multi-instrumentalist/producer David Andrew Sitek, are both visual artists as well as musicians. Adebimpe is a graduate of NYU's film school and specializes in stop-motion animation, which his Brothers Quay-like video for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs single InchPinInch demonstrates amply. He is also a painter, as is Sitek, who also produced the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Machine EP and their full-length Fever to Tell. Songs about patience, guidance, realizing full well that you do have a soul, and the hopeful horror of that soul being forced out of your body into something, anything, new. Songs about lost loves reincarnated with everything but the memory of you, beautiful eulogies for a dead century. Not so funny songs for a not so funny world but danceable, hummable, swayable, able. Able. Able. InchTV on the Radio devotes a level of attention to complex vocal layering that is rarely seen in American bands at all, much less ones from hipster Brooklyn... Musician/Producer David Andrew Sitek provides the perfect complement, giving each of Adebimpe's excursions a backdrop of surprisingly organic programming. Inch - CMJ.

Diamanda Galás - Diamanda Galás (1984) - VINYL LP

Diamanda Galás' second album is sometimes referred to as Panoptikon (the composition on the A-side of the album). The album consists of two pieces 'Panoptikon', which was inspired by Jack Henry Abbott, whose 1981 autobiographical book In the Belly of the Beast chronicled his experiences in the prison system, and '???G???? ??? ?? ???? ?O? ????F??????O? ' ('Song from the Blood of Those Murdered'), a work dedicated to the political prisoners who were tortured and executed during the 1967-74 Greek military junta. The album, originally released in 1984 on the tag Metalanguage (founded by Henry Kaiser and Larry Ochs in 1978), has long been out of print. It will now be available for the first time on CD and via streaming on October 29th, with the vinyl version to follow at the end of the year. Remastered by Heba Kadry, with updated artwork overseen by Galás, it follows the recent reissue of Galás' 1982 solo debut The Litanies of Satan (2020) and De-formation (2021) on Intravenal Sound Operations.
