This model is a standard Blu-ray player, which means: It can play standard Blu-ray discs, regular DVDs, and CDs. It does not support the newer Ultra HD Blu-ray (4K UHD) disc format, which requires a specific UHD-compatible drive and decoding hardware. Some Sony models in higher series (like the BDP-S6500 and BDP-S6700) can upscale standard Blu-ray and DVD content to near-4K resolution when connected to a 4K TV, but they also do not support actual 4K UHD disc playback. The BDP-S1700U is designed to play DVDs and Blu-ray discs; however, it will not recognize or play 4K Ultra HD discs. This model is capable of upscaling standard definition DVDs to near HD resolution and can play Blu-ray movies in Full High Definition quality. Great product for a great price
This is a fantastic starter blu ray player for a very reasonable price! It works great, I got it refurbished and it works and looks like it’s brand new. The online ordering and pickup process made it super easy to get in and out with exactly what I was looking for. I’ve recently gotten into collecting physical media so this is a great way to be able to watch them and continue to grow my film collection. Highly recommend this player

Excellent BluRay / DVD player.
I finally had to replace my old Sony BluRay player. I do not have a 4K TV, so this model was in the perfect price point for me. I selected this model also because it has the audio connection options I needed to connect it to my home theater system. It works great and the sound and video quality are great. It is easy for my spouse and kids to operate as well. An excellent value and I would highly recommend this brand and model.
