Sitting at about third price of some other leading smart watches, this device delivers incredible value without compromising on core feature, accuracy, or daily usability. As Pros: - Unbeatable Value as it delivers the performance, the health tracking, and the reliability of flagship watches at a fraction of the cost. - Step count, heart rate monitoring, and overall readings consistently match high-end competitors. Sleep scores aligned almost identically across two other smart devices. - Very comfortable on the wrist. Adding an aftermarket stainless steel band and screen protector elevates the design into a sharp and elegant look. - The display is crisp, clear, and easily readable even in direct sunlight. Touchscreen is very good with the 4 buttons controls. - Battery life is very good. Lasted around 3 full days under heavy and intensive use. Charges fast too. - The ZEPP is very good. Offering a lot of free features and nice apps and watch faces. As cons: - Connection is limited to Bluetooth only. Most users won't find this a big issue. - The watch profile is a bit high. Amazfit offers a slimmer model. I got used it to fast. - Charging through pin connectors and not wirelessly. Time will show if the pins will last. The one on the watch look like Gold Plating. It should not oxidize, rust or corrode when exposed to moisture, skin acids or salt from sweat... Time will show. I still prefer complete wireless charging. You should buy it if you are looking for an accurate fitness device that delivers accurate data, reliable sleep tracking, smart notifications, and stylish look without paying standard flagship prices. The Amazfit Active 3 Premium is an easy recommendation.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this fitness watch as I have never owned an amazefit product before. The product description always appeared somewhat subpar in my opinion, but after using it for a week, it has become my favorite fitness / smart watch. For what I considered an entry level fitness watch, you get much more out of this device than expected. Pros: Long battery life Great fitness tracking Good sleep tracking Great style Sapphire glass Good Zepp app Cons: No NFC No EKG Limited set of apps First impressions: The device build quality cuts a few corners but keeps things feeling premium overall. First, the glass is sapphire so you should have no issue keeping it looking nice over its lifespan. The frame and the clasps for the band appear to be stainless steel, but the body (where the buttons reside) appears to be plastic. This is no issue so long as the device holds up, and it keeps it light. The strap is very flexible but is easy to make too tight so I recommend you put it on a little more loosely than you think it needs to be as it will hug your wrist very well at a low tension. I have what I consider medium - small sized wrists, the 45mm design fits perfectly and looks great. The screen is a bit on the smaller side for a 45mm watch, but it is plenty bright and usable. Fitness: I have been very impressed by the fitness features of this watch; it matches what you might find in something which costs much more. First, it includes 5ATM resistance, so you will have no issue with swimming or running in the rain with this watch. All the basic health tracking features are here including heart rate, SPO2, VO2, stress tracking, skin temp and so on. The only feature I wish it had is an EKG sensor, but I can live without that (obviously an issue if you need this for tracking heart issues). GPS seems highly accurate and it supports five different GPS types. Best of all, as it is not using any software made by Google or Apple, the ZeppOS onboard integrates very nicely with both Google Health, Apple Health and Strava. Sleep tracking: I wore it most nights since getting it and it provides useful results. The time asleep appears to be in line with my other devices I use alongside it. One surprise I found is that it does a great job at tracking Hypopnea (sleep apnea). I have it and issue a CPAP. The CPAP results are pretty much in line with what the watch Zepp app tells me for avg occurrences per night. Keep in mind this is “suspected” instances and not a medical tracking device for such use, but it can be used to help diagnose. Battery: Battery is outstanding. I have only charged it once in the week and it was at around 50% by that point. Battery use will obviously change based on your usage, but it is rated at 12 days. Various settings and use of GPS are very much going to influence the battery drain, but I found on days with lots of health tracking including GPS, the watch will go down just under 10% per day. Smartwatch usage: As it is not using WearOS or WatchOS, I was surprised how functional ZeppOS is. The appearance of the watch interface is most like watchOS in my opinion, so if you have a device using that, you will quickly adjust. It is not quite as smooth as ZeppOS is designed for low power usage, every function works very well. One restriction is you will not find many apps to download (there is a small store), but amazefit did a great job keeping the watch fully functional for necessary applications like timers, trackers, alarms, calling features, etc. One thing I like is that there are four buttons, people who are familiar with Garmin devices will like this as one set of buttons controls selection/back and the other set controls up and down scrolling. The touch screen works just fine, but when your hands are sweaty, it is raining, or you are wearing gloves, buttons are where it is at. Extras: Since I could talk about this watch all day, here are a few items I felt were worth mentioning but don’t want to write a paragraph about. Maps are included in the watch which is great for routing in the form of base maps, contour maps and ski maps. The size of these is limited so you might need to update and download prior to travel. Transfer is over Bluetooth so 13MB for example can take a few minutes. Podcasts can be added via RSS feeds or OMPL files in the app as can to-do list entries, MP3 files, voice memos, jet lag tracking, training plans. These are all based on the app/watch sync so don’t expect much in the way of external integrations. Watch faces are plentiful, a voice control option is present, but there is NO NFC.

So easy to use. And it withstands the heat during outside routines.

The Amazfit Active 3 Premium is a very powerful smart watch with great battery life. It was easy and quick to set up with my 17 Pro Max. The hardest part is installing the band which is a band with small pins. There is a small push bar on the back of the band to assist with removal and it does help, but it is still fairly difficult to install the band. The band is rubber and comfortable at first. Over time it could become a little irritating. The included instruction booklet is almost impossible to read. Even with Glasses. There is a PDF version you can download online and print if you can’t read the included booklet. This watch / tracker has way more features than I expected. Because of that, there is a big learning curve. The description I saw really focused on running. It tracks much more than just running. I will use the walking, treadmill, swimming, cycling and free training workouts the most. It also tracks blood oxygen, pulse, sleeping patterns and more. You can add or remove workouts from the main workout selection screen to simplify scrolling to what you use most. There is a screen with widgets for apps of interest like weather, workout history, heart rate, sleep, and some Zepp specific features. App is called Zepp and is more complicated than I expected. Not something you can learn in a day but looks very powerful. The home screen gives a quick overview of most of your health metrics. The Workout screen gives information on your workouts. It also has Coaching and Calendar apps and you can start certain workouts from this screen as well. The third screen has badges for motivation. The fourth page is called Zepp Aura. This seems to be where premium features reside. Of course, these require a subscription. There is a 14-day trial. After that, the yearly subscription will cost $29.99 if you subscribe in the first few days. If you don’t grab this deal quickly, the subscription goes to $69.99 / year The last screen is for adding and customizing the compatible devices you own. Here you can see battery level, watch faces, the app store and settings for apps as well as a few other things. There are quite a few watch faces to select from. Most faces I tried are difficult to read. The text is just too small for these 58 y.o. eyes, even with my glasses. Some I can read, but they don’t necessarily have the information I want to see. I can’t figure out how to modify them (or if I even can). It would be great if I could. Functionally, the circular face doesn’t let you read in a glance as well as a rectangular face. There is more scrolling. However, it is more fashionable and looks really good. The screen is bright and clear enough for most apps. Touch scrolling works well but I wish there was a mechanical way to scroll. Notifications and alerts come thru more reliably on this watch than the one designed to work with my phone. The AI voice assistant needs some work. It answered some simple questions wrong and had a hard time hearing my questions. I went for a walk through a local mall. The GPS lost connection after I went indoors. I’m concerned that it might not have recorded the walk properly. Outdoor activities should not have this issue. Clearing notifications could be easier. Swiping left gives you a glimpse of the trash can but as soon as you let go it shoots to the right and off the screen. You need to swipe again to delete. If you swipe just right, you can delete in one motion but it’s difficult to do. Finally, battery life seems very good and charging seems quick. After a day and several hours, I still have 67% battery despite having the watch set to a 24-hour ON screen. When not in focus, most of the screen will be very dark but the time is still visible. If you lift your arm, it turns the full screen back on. I charged from 65% to 97% in about 30 - 40 minutes. So, a low charge to 100% should be under 3 hours. Would I recommend this? To the right people I would. The cost is very reasonable. The battery life is very good. It is fashionable. It does more than I ever expected it would. Those are the big selling points. However, it’s not as polished or integrated as my other watch. If you are already in an ecosystem, I’m not sure it is worth switching. If you don’t already have a tracker /smartwatch or need something that is compatible with more than one platform, this is a very good place to look.
