Insignia - 40" NS-40D510NA15
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great TV for office/den/garage/security cameras. Nice quality imaging with digital signal. Speakers are the weak point, I had to add a soundbar to really hear it without cranking the volume way too high. Just sounded hollow. Nice setup features, easy to use, basic remote control, and quite small. Does not have any pixelation issues, or hot spots.

The Insignia 40” LCD TV is a better than expected
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m not the most picky when it comes to a TV, considering this was a decent value on Black Friday ($180) and although I don’t have the highest opinion of Insignia brand TVs, I have to say that I was fairly impressed with its capabilities. It offers a decent array of inputs, although I would have preferred to see 3 HDMI inputs rather than just the standard 2 inputs, but that is something I would be willing to sacrifice considering the price of the product. The built-in speakers are the typical underpowered, shallow and lackluster sound that I’ve come to expect with virtually every TV that I’ve purchased within the last 8 years or so. It’s not a negative because let’s face it, no one is buying a TV with the speakers in mind, and considering how simple adding a 2.1 soundbar or a decently priced 5.1 system will enhance the listening experience, it’s no surprise Insignia doesn’t waste money in this department. I purchased this TV for my girlfriend who upgraded from a 20” CRT set and obviously there is no comparison. The set isn’t the most slim that I’ve seen, personally my 46” Seiki offers a thinner package, but it’s certainly not a deal breaker. My biggest complaint about this comes with the rear mounting holes for a wall mount. I purchased a Cheetah wall mount off of Amazon and although I was able to get it to correctly mount and securely be attached to the wall, I feel that Insignia missed a huge mark here. Considering a large majority of consumers will by a set like this to mount on a wall, I feel that the design has a huge flaw. Towards the bottom of the set, there is a significant bulge, perhaps it’s the speaker base, or just plastic housing for something else, but it caused the particular mounting system that I purchased to not completely fit. Thankfully I was able to undo the two metal clips that allow the mounting arms to attach to the wall mount and screw in the bottom two screws. On most sets I’ve seen the back is completely flat but with this added bulge I feel that Insignia shot themselves in the foot just a little bit. It’s not a deal-breaker as I mentioned because with an entirely different mounting solution it wouldn’t be a problem and especially considering that I was still able to get it to fit, just with a little creative thinking and a few extra tools, I can’t say that’s it’s too bad, just something to be aware. As for the screen itself, it looks brilliant to me. I’ve watched hours on high-end quality 1080P screens, loaded with features, and I’ve watched hours on this set, and I honestly can say that it looks just as well. The blacks and low levels aren’t the most defined but again I refer you to the price tag of this set. Overall the colors are pretty crisp and accurate. The viewing angles are decent, but not the greatest, I noticed some discoloration when at an extreme again but where it’s set up in my girlfriend’s bedroom, we’re mostly watching it head on so the viewing angles to us aren’t a great concern. Overall for the money, the screen is an exceptional value, its well worth the investment in my opinion. For the Black Friday price, it was a no-brainer, as soon as I saw the deal go live, I immediately purchased it. For the regular price (currently $280, $100 more than the Black Friday price) I wouldn’t say that I would be as pressed to purchase this set. It’s a perfect fine set for under $200, however as you get nearer the $300 mark, I have the feeling that a higher quality set with perhaps a few more features could be found. This is a perfect replacement for many that still have a CRT kicking around and have the space available to fit a 40”. Pair it was a Chromecast using one of the HDMI slots and the integrated USB slot and you’ll have a one-cable (power cable), wall-mounted TV for a fairly decent price. If you’re looking to buy this set at the current price ($280), I’d suggest waiting until it drops a little bit or shopping around for another set for a similarly sized set for that $300 mark. Overall, I’m very impressed with this set so far. It’s endurance remains to be set yet however as we’ve only had it for a month and use it only for about 10 hours a week. But at this point and time, we’re both extremely pleased with the Insignia 40” TV from Best Buy. It’s exceeded our expectations in the areas of it’s display, while meeting our low standard of integrated speakers and although a small bump in the installation process, the lower bulge on the back of the set is only a minor drawback.

Great Brand by Best Buy. Reliable.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Awesome product! The device itself and the bezels' slim form factor is a dream. Comes with a sleek stand that is mostly not visible, being concealed underneath the television. This television is PERFECTLY great for use in an office, for computer display, or display just for picture slideshows (there's an option for this in settings). Its also nice that the HDMI port (1 of 2) has a power passthrough feature for external devices that support receiving power from the HDMI ports. Alright so now, we've gotta get the cons out of the way. But its just a few. Input components leave you wanting just a bit more. If you're one that has more than two HDMI devices to connect, you may find yourself switching cords out now and then if you only plan on getting one of these televisions. There are no IR sensor ports for controlling your cable box or sound system with one remote. The settings are not as intricate as one with keen setup preferences would like. Some prompts, such as occupying the USB port and asked if the user would like to "view photos? - yes/no". If only occupying the port for the use of a dongle, this can become a bit annoying at times, as this prompt is not a toggle option under settings.

Great intermediate TV !!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the third Insignia television I have bought over the last several years. Insignia has become a player in the mid-range market in my opinion. If your looking for a high-end T.V. with all the "bells & whistles" then this T.V. is not for you , however if your looking for a mid-range set then look no further! This particular set comes with a dedicated "M.H.L." port which is marked in purple. This port accepts the newer ROKU model 3400M streaming stick which I also bought from Best Buy. The significance of the 3400M stick is that it requires no additional "USB" plug on the set as a power source. It also works off this model Insignia's T.V. so no additional remote is required. I have two older model ROKU's in my son's rooms & this setup is much easier to set up with no cables & user-friendly! If I had to cite one small con it is that this set only has 2 HDMI ports, but just check & see how many devices you will be hooking up via HDMI & you will know if this is a problem for you. I still gave the set 5 stars anyway because the picture & sound are tremendous at this price range.

Pretty good, only had three minor issues
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall I am very happy with this TV and I will definitely be keeping it. I do have two minor issues to report on, otherwise the TV has been perfect. First issue, the MHL HDMI port works oddly with some devices, like my Amazon Fire TV Stick. Using the MHL port will cause the stick to reboot every few minutes. I am using external power on the stick as you are supposed to but for some reason it does not like the MHL port and I'm not sure why as it should just function as a normal HDMI port. Stick works fine on the other HDMI port though. Second issue and bigger one for me, the viewing angles are not good at all from the side. This TV replaced a three year old LG and the LG looked great form all angles and this one washes out badly in color from starting angles greater than say 20 degrees off center. My wife doe not notice it, but I sure do. It is not a huge deal as the TV is for the bedroom and it has to look good from the bed area which is a set position of course. Still, before I could glance over form any position in the room and see it well, now it looks bad unless in front of it. Vertical angles do not matter and it stays looking good. Third issue - the first TV was shipped to me and it was shattered in the box, you could tell before ever powering it on. I exchanged it in the store as I was unwilling to try shipping again. Box looked undamaged from the outside, inside the lower edge of the TV was visibly pinched near the thickest part of the TV shattering the screen. I'm at a loss as to how that could have happened and left the box undamaged, but it did.

Impressive for a cheap 40"
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this as a Black Friday special for under $200. With that in mind, just about any 40" TV is a steal at that price. Given that this at least has 2 HDMI ports and 1080p (even if only at 60Hz), the picture quality was pretty good and the sound was decent as well. I mounted this in my office last night after unboxing it and it's a good size, not too thick considering all the slimmer models out there these days (I think this one is about 3" deep). It weighs next to nothing which was nice too for mounting purposes (did it alone despite the recommendation to have another pair of hands available to assist). The color was a little oversaturated -- not like a Samsung that seems to always come like that from the factory but still looks amazing. As a result, flesh tones and people looked overly colored. Although I didn't perform any type of proper calibration, I did mess with the picture settings enough to where I got a picture that is more realistic and balanced -- one I can be very happy with if I left it as is. I hooked up a PS4 and the picture was also great and plugged in my MHL Roku stick from a few years back and was streaming from Hulu and Netflix in a matter of minutes. As a no frills set, this did provide some options and was ultimately a great purchase. Would I have preferred a slightly larger set with 3D, a dependable name, more ports and a higher refresh rate? Of course, but I also would have paid another $200 minimum for that and probably in a 32" form factor. I bought a separate 720p 60Hz 20" Insignia TV a month or two prior to this and I have to say, for a lower end product, the Insignias are turning out to be decent choices that I wouldn't hesitate to buy.

Q: QuestionDoes Roku Ready mean that the Roku streaming stick is included with the purchase of the tv?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer No, it does not include a Roku stick. It is Roku MHL ready which means that you can purchase a Roku MHL stick (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/roku-streaming-stick-roku-ready-mhl-version/1484019.p?id=1219052241897&skuId=1484019) to use with the existing Roku MHL port. The Insignia TV's remote already has the Roku buttons built in so you won't have a separate remote for the Roku. You can learn more about Roku MHL here: https://www.roku.com/roku-ready

Q: QuestionWhat is the best audio settings?I just bought this tv and was wondering what the best sound quality setting are. I see is says treble, bass, balance and sound mode. Which are the best settings to have?
Asked by guineapigs05.
- A:Answer Unfortunately, there is not a specific answer to this. It will depend on things like the room the tv is in, the spacing of equipment and furniture, even so far as what kind of shows you like to watch. The best I can offer is try the preset like News, Theatre, etc. then try customizing the settings to find your personal preference.

Q: Questioncompared to Model NS-40D40SNA14the dynamic contrast ratio is different between the 2 models, and also the brightness -- 180 compared to 240. all else seems the same, except this one is 1/2" smaller, diagonally, the other has an extra HDMI input, and the speakers are a bit better (8W compared to 5W). i don't care about the 1/2"; probably wouldn't need the extra HDMI; and doubt that 3W of speaker power would make the other model's sound much better (both probably need external speakers). but what is the dynamic contrast ratio and brightness?
Asked by colbey.
- A:Answer The DCR enhances the contrast ratio between the light and dark areas of the picture. Both TV's have this function. The brightness is just how bright the TV gets. The newer TV has a greater degree of brightness.

Q: QuestionOlder surround system friendly?Hello, my older surround system I have currently hooks up to my TV via the red and white jacks. I choose the external sound source on my old TV and boom, there's sound. I was wondering if the Insignia TV has the same ability - that is, to hook up my older surround system to Insignia TV using red/white jacks and have the sound come out on surround system rather than TV speakers. Thanks all for reading this question!
