    Don’t hesitated to buy

Runs incredibly fast although it does run hot but you are paying for this I would think you have a motherboard in the hi end range like this m.2 right here and they have heat sinks with thermal pads already included so there should be no worry there to stop you from buying this product I chose a 4tb because I upgraded from two 2TB 990 pros wich already are lightning fast the 9100 pro is a gen 5 and does run faster and 1 slot reads faster as well

Runs cool but doesn't improve random read

I used to own the 990 Pro 4TB, and this Gen 5 SSD is surprisingly cooler than the 990 Pro, especially the controller. The NAND is a bit warmer but still much cooler than the 990 Pro's controller. It's visibly faster when copying and booting from Windows. However, this drive unfortunately does not provide any improvement in Random 4K Read Q1T1 which is very important to real life use after Windows startup and during gaming.

Questions & Answers

  • Do these run cooler than the Crucial T705 ssd m2? What is the controller used on this? I am asking this question because gen 5 ssd m2 nvme runs hot, and I am hoping that Samsung has a controller than runs cooler than the competition.

Getclay: The Samsung 9100 PRO SSD features advanced thermal control and enhanced power efficiency, which helps it run cooler. The advanced 5nm controller (called the Presto) power architecture enhances power efficiency up to 49% over 990 PRO. - Samsung Memory

  • Will the problems using a Gen 5 Samsung 9100 Pro SSD in the dedicated M2 slot near the CPU on the ASUS - ROG MAXIMUS Z890 HERO Intel Z890 ATX DDR5 Wi-Fi 7 Motherboard be resolved? Is there a fix?

ChrisH: Yes, the issues with the Samsung 9100 Pro Gen 5 SSD in the M.2 slot near the CPU on the ASUS ROG Maximus Z890 Hero are known, but they are not caused by lane-sharing with the GPU. The GPU still runs at PCIe 5.0 x16, and the SSD at PCIe 5.0 x4. The problems (stuttering, lag, or reduced benchmark scores) appear to be firmware/BIOS-related. For now, the best fix is to update your motherboard BIOS and SSD firmware. To check for latest firmware update: Run the Magician software and choose “Firmware Update” under the navigation menu. If the program suggests that you do not need to update the firmware, you have the latest firmware. - Samsung Memory
