    An Alternative to the Harmony 650

    I would not say that this Smart Remote is an exact replacement for the Logitech Harmony 650 Silver remote. Set up was a lot easier with the Logitech Harmony remote. When it came to device recognition. You were able to input your exact model. Which in turn would supply all the functionality to the buttons. No learning was involved. Battery Life, questionable. The LED screen never turns off and is not adjustable, only the back light is adjustable. Foreseen app issues. Think back to when Logitech shut down their database, May 28, 2025. Now, we all have a remote that cannot be reset. The remote becomes useless when upgrading to new equipment. Well, the same applies here. That is unless you are able actually do the programming via the remote directly. Once One For All decides to pull the plug on providing app updates, what have you got? Another useless harmony like remote. This device does have potential, but there is a leaning curve. The full user manual is available for download via their website under Support. No physical numeric key pad. However it is displayed on the screen. Most remotes place the keypad at the bottom of the remote. Which I feel is awkward. It’s a nice trim remote with a backlight. For those that are wondering, no, you cannot change the color of the back light, only the brightness. I would say to have this remote perform as advertised, you need to sit down on the sofa with all your remotes, a beer or a glass of wine, and the manual to become familiar with all the features. Begin with pairing the remote to the phone. Then, start selecting your devices, and be certain that they can be turned on and off. It’s the “Activities” it throws me off. It’s not nearly as easy as it was with the harmony 650. One benefit to Logitech is that you did this on your computer which was on a bigger screen than dealing with your phone. I believe this remote does have potential. It just requires what? Patience!

    Gets the job done

    OK Smart Controller and works fine but not easy to program. But it is much cheaper than the Harmony I was considering.

  • Does Best Buy come to the house to program this remote if I purchase it? I do belong to the Geek Squad.

    Being that I do not work for Best Buy and/ or the Geek Squad, I would give them a call. Keep in mind, there maybe a fee. They can be reached at 1 (800) 433-5778. I was under the impression that Geek Square only handles larger projects. Though I haven't looked, someone may have posted a video to YouTube on how to setup and program the remote.
