Hisense - 55" Class U7 Series MiniLED QLED UHD 4K HDR Smart Google TV (2026)

The Hisense U7 series 55-inch TV is our first new large-format TV in almost 20 years. As our old one recently stopped working, this gave us the perfect opportunity to finally upgrade. While the screen diagonal on this model is a bit smaller at 55”, the unit itself is considerably lighter at just under 30.5 lbs without the stand and 37.5 with, compared to the hefty 50 lbs of our previous 60” TV. Its overall profile is also smaller since it has razor thin bezels at the top and side with only a 1/2" chin along the bottom. This TV was simple to set up, and we had it up and running in under 10 minutes after unboxing, attaching the stand, and connecting it to the internet via WiFi. When assembling the stand, you can set the height of the TV to high or low by attaching its supports to different mounting points, though the height difference is only around 1-1/4”. The angled supports both have removable covers at the back that allow you to use them for cord management. You can optionally mount the TV to the wall by removing the four large screws on the back and attaching it to an appropriately sized 400mm x 400mm VESA-compatible and weight-capacitated bracket. The built-in WiFi 6E card lets you to connect to the 6 GHz band for a faster, stronger, and more stable connection, if your network supports it. As the TV uses Google TV as its native OS, you’ll have the option to scan a QR code to set it up using a mobile device or manually log into a Google account using the remote to key in your credentials. It not only supports Google Home and Chromecast but also Apple’s AirPlay and HomeKit. For inputs, the device has four 2.1 HDMI ports and a coaxial for antenna and cable connections. All HDMI ports support 4K @ 165Hz, while only HDMI 3 is eARC compatible, allowing you to transmit high-quality, uncompressed audio like Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and multi-channel surround sound to a compatible soundbar or receiver. It also supports CEC, so you can control the external audio device’s volume and power using the TV’s remote and have both devices power on and off simultaneously. These is an optical audio out port and an Ethernet jack for a wired Internet connection as well. The set has two USB-A ports: the upper one is USB 2.0 which delivers 0.5 A power output, and the lower one is USB 3.0 with 1 A power output and faster data transfer speeds. You can connect a USB stick with photos, music, or movies to view on the TV or use them to power a streaming device. The remote control is backlit and even lights up automatically when the remote is picked up in dim lighting. However, only the “main” function keys in dark gray with white icons are backlit, like settings, volume, channel, mute, and menu; the power and one-touch buttons for various streaming services like Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+ and YouTube, are not backlit. There is also a dedicated Free TV key that launches Google TV Freeplay for viewing live programming that you don't need to pay a subscription fee to watch, like local news and classic TV shows. I like that the remote does not need a line of site to the TV to work, and it has a customizable favorite button that you can set to change to a specific input or launch a particular app or function. The image quality of the display is amazingly sharp and clear with vivid colors, good contrast, and high brightness even during the day and under bright lighting conditions. The maximum resolution of the display is 4K at 3840 by 2160 pixels and compared to the 1080p that we were used to, has super fine detail and looks very realistic. In addition, you can apply AI enhancement and upscaling for additional improvement to quality and clarity, from motion smoothing to noise reduction. With most of these options set to medium or high, when watching video or movies with fast-paced action, I didn’t notice much blur, digital artifacts, or graininess. Even from a close distance, the pixels are so tiny that I couldn’t make them out. The surface of the display is matte, with an anti-glare/reflection coating, so I did not see many reflections or light halos from windows and fixtures reflected on the display. This TV has an integrated 2.1.2 speaker system on the back, which actually sounds really nice. While not as immersive as a true surround sound system, the virtualized surround sound gives you a sense of depth and movement that's more three-dimensional than stereo alone. That said, the max sound output at 50 Watts is more than it needs. I keep it set at around 15 to 20 out of 100, and when I attempted to listen to higher volumes, the sound started to get deafening and distorted above 50. I’ve not gone above 70 because I'm worried about blowing out the speakers. In lieu of increasing the volume, you can enable voice enhancement to make them clearer and louder without affecting the overall volume level. Another feature that I really like is the ability to connect with multiple Bluetooth devices simultaneously. For example, I connected the display to my Bluetooth gaming controller as well as wireless headphones and was able to privately listen to the television while gaming. With Bluetooth 5.0 or higher audio devices, there was no noticeable delay and perfect voice to video sync. The game controller’s response time was also instant and lag-free. The TV is compatible with various input devices in addition to the remote control, like a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse. Gaming on this TV is great because it has a maximum refresh rate of 165Hz, for games that support it, offering a smoother, more immersive experience compared to lower refresh rates. Both the remote and the TV itself have built-in microphones, so you can use hands-free voice control. Just press and hold the mic icon on the remote to search or give commands to Google’s AI assistant, Gemini. When the TV is on, you can also enable the wake word, “Hey Google,” but if you don't want the mic to be actively listening, there is a physical switch adjacent to its power button that allows you to disable the microphone. Overall, this Hisense television delivers an enjoyable viewing experience through its clear and rich picture quality, great sound, and ease of use. The built-in OS is super smooth and responsive and has everything I need to enjoy movies, music, and gaming on it, with fast internet connectivity, access to apps and streaming services, and multipoint Bluetooth support.

There are many preset video modes to choose from (e.g., vivid, standard, theater, sports, gaming, Filmmaker) or calibrate the picture yourself with an incredible degree of precision. You will be absolutely delighted with the video images created by this magnificent TV. To meet the HDR 10+ (High Dynamic Range) and Dolby Vision IQ standards the display has to attain both a very high brightness level and a very dark black level coupled with a vast range of colors presented with very subtle shading between the millions of pixels on the screen. The 2,000+ local dimming zones give deep blacks and the 10 bit color with the multiple HDR and Dolby Vision systems supported create a very wide range of colors and brightness levels. It creates an effective 480 frame per second refresh rate (Tru-Motion 480) with each of the 8.3 million pixels set to the exact color/brightness level required to achieve the truest image. This also includes upscaling HD content (which has only 2 million pixels in the image) by interpolating the correct color and brightness to the full 8.3 million pixels of the 4K display. Most TVs produce 250-350 nits of light output, but this Hisense has a specified 3000 nits brightness level which ensures that the picture will even stand up to bright, direct sunlight. The new multi-layer anti-reflective matte coating on the screen works very well to limit distracting reflections and glare. This amazing combination of technologies creates an unmatched picture quality. How good is the sound? Most television speakers are just not comparable to the display, yet the immersive experience of movies or sporting events comes from rich sound rolling over and around you. This usually requires adding a sound bar to replace those pitiful little speakers typically built in. But this Hisense has one of the best sound systems I have ever heard on any set. Its unaided sound is so good that I watched an entire action movie with my sound bar turned off and it seemed there was very little drop off in audio quality. This is due to the 2.1.2 channel Dolby Atmos sound system, the most advanced surround sound system. It delivers sound as “objects” which are placed in three dimensional space rather than in specific channels to immerse listeners in the sound delivered through two built-in 10-watt full-range left/right speakers mounted at the bottom edge, a 20-watt woofer mounted in the center of the back of the TV and two 5-watt side/up speakers mounted on the left and right back of the TV. You can also choose preset sound modes (e.g., standard, theater, sports, clear voice, music) or make your own sound adjustments. If you use this TV in a room where a supplemental audio system would not fit in, the built-in sound system will not disappoint you. Even better, Hisense offers a nice range of modestly-priced Hi-Concerto soundbars which connect seamlessly to this TV and enable you to use both the TV speakers and the soundbar speakers together. Finally, the third element of evaluating is the set of added features available. Here you will find that this TV is like one of those Russian nesting doll sets – every time you open up a feature your find another bonus inside! • All extra features are controlled by the excellent Google TV + Gemini operating system. This facilitates an effortless setup process including installing all of your streaming services. • The lighted remote gives direct access to the most popular streaming services (Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube, Disney+ and a customizable button. It also accepts voice commands and provides a menu button for settings. • The Google Play Content Store contains hundreds of additional apps and games which can be downloaded. The storage capacity for the operating system and apps is a generous 32 GB. • The Google TV Live feature is amazing. It is an integrated program guide of internet program sources and over-the-air channels. It also includes Gemini. Just ask it any question and it will respond to you! It also finds any content you may want, instantly, and suggests all of the alternative viewing choices for that content. It also learns your viewing preferences and makes intelligent suggestions that you will probably enjoy. • Gamers will be thrilled by the dedicated Game Bar menu options and the superb color and 330 Hz variable refresh rate image processing capability of the TV. • The ATSC 3.0 over-the-air tuner can receive 4K broadcasts. It is very easy to receive digital broadcasts with this fine tuner and you will be amazed by their quality. • A Device Assistant button in the Apps menu gives access to a fine array of built-in utilities including a hardware check, storage cleaner and a system optimizer. • Nearly all menu options include explanations of their function. • Air Play screen sharing from a PC or phone is supported and it is effortless. There is also a Multi-View display mode which permits both a video feed from the TV and screen mirroring from a phone – great for watching two games side-by-side! • WiFi is the latest 6E standard (LAN 802.11AX 2.4/5G/6G). An Ethernet port is also available. • “Ambient Mode” gives rotating artwork or personal photos plus time/temperature on screen. • The very solid stand is easy to assemble, has a compact 10.4” x 15” footprint and provides two height choices. The taller setting raises the TV about 3 inches which is plenty to permit a soundbar to be placed in front without blocking the screen. Evaluation - the Hisense 55” U7SG is an absolutely superb premium television, offered at an attractive price and perfectly-sized for smaller rooms (den, bedrooms) - an excellent choice for those who demand the best. It earned a full five stars and my most enthusiastic endorsement!

Overall, I am pleased with the television. The anti glare is effective, especially in our sunlit living room. Love having a TV for this room that doesn’t reflect everything back at you like a mirror. We have this in a room with lots of natural light and even with the blinds open, the picture is bright, defined, and easy to see. When I stand to the side and see the window on-screen in the brightest of the day, I can kind of see it, but it’s much diffused (hooray!). The brightness is adjustable, so if your room isn’t as bright, you can set it to what you need/want. The colors on screen are vibrant, clear, and it has several screen options, such as theater or standard modes. If you want an app to display your media, there are a LOT to choose from. The one we use is in the lineup, so we’ll be good to go. I was surprised at how good the sound from the TV is. We use speakers, but if we didn’t, the sound from it is good—I usually am annoyed at TV sound but I could be fine with this one’s sound. We paired it with eArc and it was simple to do. I like the flat-bottom plate stand that it comes with vs. feet on each end. It’s sturdy and sleek and if you can’t hang the TV on the wall (like in an apartment or something), it actually would work to set it on a mantle with the stand. I thought that I’d take a half star off for the thickness, which affects the frame I’ll have to build, but since measurements are listed, I don’t think that’s necessarily fair. We got it to frame and view art and photos mainly, and the frame we will build will need to be thicker than I had wanted, but the anti glare and picture is so good, I’m OK with that. We don’t walk up to it from the side, so it really won’t be that big of a deal. All that said, if you’re looking for a great picture plus good sound without having to use external speakers, I recommend this one.

Had been playing with the 55" Hisense U7 model for the 4th day now and coming from my, much more expensive, OLed Tv from my living room i can truly say that this TV it's worth every penny. 🤩Highlights: ->HDR ...The difference in black levels is noticeable — the OLED still wins in shadow detail and uniformity — but the U7 compensates with excellent peak brightness and very punchy color. HDR is where this TV really shines: specular highlights stand out clearly, and in bright scenes the overall contrast can actually look a bit stronger than on my G3 thanks to the U7’s higher sustained brightness. ->🖼️ ...Color accuracy out of the box is solid, and the panel produces a vibrant, high‑impact image that works especially well for HDR movies and sports. ->🚴 ...Motion handling is clean with minimal artifacts, and gaming performance is responsive with low input lag and smooth VRR support. ->💽 ...Google TV interface runs smoothly, and app performance has been one of the best i've encounter going head to head with other much more expensive flagships out there. Now there are few things that i think need some work like the blooming effect while it's not noticeable it's still present and the matte panel does help with viewing angle specially in brighter rooms i feel that it just amplifies a bit the little blooming that's happening in more challenging scenes. Overall, the Hisense U7 offers impressive brightness, strong HDR performance, and great gaming responsiveness, making it a well‑rounded and high‑value option in its price range.

The Hisense - 55" Class U7SG is serious contender in the latest round of LED backlit, UHD televisions. For reference, I'm wholeheartedly an OLED purist and with each passing year, OLED televisions never cease to amaze me with increased brightness, clarity, dynamic range and mind-blowing levels of black & shadow detail. That all said, this U7SG was a very pleasant surprise - for a lot of reasons. The specs are easily found and obvious to the level of engineering that went into this new generation. I held no illusions as to what expect - because - no matter if they call it "Full Array local dimming" or Mini LED, the interaction of the filtering layers and the LED illumination behind them is what translates to what the eyes ultimately see. And it should go without saying, stuff like the room environment and one's perception of the image - is highly variable & subjective. In that order. Setting up the Hisense - 55" Class U7 was quick & painless. Based upon the Google (Android) TV platform, Hisense does a much better job of simply presenting the Google OS in an unadulterated way vs. someone like Sony. That's my opinion anyway... No complicated layout changes with unnecessary reformatting or "pop ups" or layer upon layers of sub menus - - just straight up, Google TV operating system - - which I prefer. Blends really well with people that use YouTube TV I will add. It's a Smart TV like so many others and I won't delve into those aspects. What I want to share is the overall performance and visual quality aspects of the TV. Notable mentions however: WiFi 6E, 165 Hz, 3000 nits, NextGen TV capable, 4 x HDMI 2.1 and a 2-year warranty! Out of the box, I found the 55" Class U7 Series Mini LED QLED UHD 4K presentation to be more than just a tad bit oversaturated and near blinding bright. To my eyes, the Standard picture mode - with no Ai enabled picture enhancements I might add - looked a lot like so many other TV's set to Vivid mode. Oversaturated reds, blinding areas of white, somewhat gray leaning blacks and just way too much intensity. So then, why 4 stars? you might ask... The answers are simple. LCD based televisions are inherently limited to off-angle viewing effects and some level of light bleed and/or blooming. But here's the thing: With the evolution of LCD televisions comes improved processing speeds & capability, improved filtering and generation of color rendition and way better control of the back lighting in dynamic, increasingly critical HDR motion content. I can only imagine how impressive the higher end, whatever a company chooses to call it -- Micro LED, Micro RGB LED, RGB direct view -- I expect those televisions to approach OLED performance in new & exciting ways. But then, what about Mini LED, this actual TV and the 4 stars given? you may still ask... This 55"-inch U7SG brings super killer UHD quality to the cost-conscious shopper. Here's why: Even with the beyond Vivid presentation, fresh out the box, when you finally get around to dialing down the brightness, the color and find the right clarity settings (personal preference for sure...) this television looks amazing in both dimly lit and brightly lit, room environments. Spending a little over an hour, I was able to adjust the U7's picture settings to mimic my 65" OLED TV, sitting right beside it. And although the differences were still there - to the eye - they were much less pronounced than I've ever seen before. The processor in this television is obviously up-to-the-task of processing stunning images and does so while maintaining a very snappy, responsive UI experience. Because of the subjective nature of how people perceive what they see vs. something else, I'm going to forego doing a Pro & Con list separation and simply list out my observations. Hopefully you key into what matters to you. This Hisense Mini LED platform achieves some of the most uniform picture control I've ever seen in an LCD television - corner to corner, edge to edge. Dynamic range is super impressive, and shadow detail more than decent. (after some tweaking ofc...) The amount of brightness gain and color saturation it is capable of just means it has "system margin" to go FULL NITS and when dialed down, it can achieve a really beautiful picture. I can still detect some ever so slight blooming or glow but it’s mostly noticeable when viewing in a dark room or when using a camera sensor – which tend to reveal & expose what the human eye averages out. Off-axis viewing is still a hinderance - to my eyes - and starts to kick in even before being 20 degrees off-center and perceivable brightness, clarity & color saturation suffer big time past the 45-degree point. But this is inherent to all LCD television, to some degree and for a sub-$1000 price point, the 55-inch U7SG does a pretty amazing job staying uniform - even off-angle. In other words, this television hits way above its weight class in its sweat spot - to use a boxing analogy. I will venture a guess that the anti-reflective treatment to the screen is what is contributing the most, to the roll-off in off-axis picture brightness. And in that vein, that's a fair trade off - because this television handles ambient light - be it from windows or light sources within the room - Like an absolute Boss! Much like the brightness and saturation explosion this TV dishes out, the audio system of the Hisense - 55" Class U7SG is loud. Like, seriously LOUD. It needs to be cranked down too, IMHO - - but even at higher levels, it still sounds full - rich - commanding. This thing fills an average to larger sized great room with authoritative sound, at a volume setting of just 25 to 30. The remote control is backlit and the buttons aren't cramped. This is actually a really impressive remote! Great ergonomics, bougie brushed metal finish... and it just feels good in the hand. Summary: For anyone budget conscious, to the point of leaving plenty of room for mounting hardware, a quality sound bar system and whatever else – and not blowing the piggy bank mainly on the display – I highly recommend that you consider the Hisense U7SG series – no matter the size. It’s not quite OLED performance levels but comes darned close; closer than I’ve seen at prices like this! And if you're trying to counteract the effects of various light-source challenges, in a particular room, I'll bet you will be amazed what this 2026 U7 lineup can do for you. In conclusion, I dinged the rating 1 star because I think a future firmware update should tone down the brightness/saturation & logarithmic sound scaling - at this early juncture. Nevertheless, this is an outstanding secondary TV or an option for those wanting some cutting-edge image quality without breaking the bank. Don't ignore Hisense. They are a serious contender now!
