Pretty underwhelming sequel
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I loved the Zero Escape and thought the first Somnium Files game was only OK. I had heard the sequel (Nirvana Initiative) had improved some of the things I didn't like about the first, mainly that "gameplay" was basically trial and error and random guessing. That has improved a little bit in this game, where you do find yourself logically finding answers to questions/puzzles on occasion, but these instances were a bit far and few between. There were still too many moments where I felt the correct answer/choice was so incredibly obvious or completely random. The story itself is mediocre. The premise is a bit outrageous which is fine but it kind of drags on. There were too many points in the story where you had to literally go to every location in the game and have a (sometimes meaningless) conversation with someone in order to progress. It felt like filler to rack up the playtime required to beat the game. I remembered the first Somnium Files not having this issue (as much) and its story was better. Though overall if you really enjoyed the first Somnium Files, I think you'll enjoy Nirvana Initiative. Just don't expect it to be better. Also note that since this is an Xbox One game, this will not work with Quick Resume on Xbox Series X.
