Move over steakhouse!
Posted .Pros mentioned:Cooking, Ease of use, For steakI’ve been in the sous vide game since 2016 with Anova’s first gen precision cooker. If you haven’t cooked with a sous vide before, it does meet the hype and the cat’s meow. But just meh if you already have the 1st gen Anova. More on this later. Pros: • Super easy to get the best results • Fast heating • App connectivity Cons: • A bit more plastic than the first gen • High pitch whine • Not a huge improvement over the first gen My first experience with a sous vide was mind blowing. After watching videos and photos of perfectly cooked steaks, I knew I had to get one and im glad I went with Anova. Super easy to use app that helps decide what temps and how long to cook your proteins with. I love cooking my prime ribeyes at 129 degrees for 1-2 hours (depending on thickness). Then using a 500 degree hot cast iron skillet with avocado oil (high smoke point) to give it a nice sear. My steaks are now on par with $100 steaks you can order at a steakhouse for a fraction of the price. I do recommend this 2nd gen Anova precision cooker to anyone looking to get into sous vide. I still prefer my 1st gen Anova over the latest version. The 1st gen had mostly metal parts, quieter water circulator, and more robust clamp. The 2nd gen does sport a shorter design and a higher wattage for faster water heating.

Not worth the extra for wifi, but good performance

Quality5 out of 5Value3 out of 5Ease of Use3 out of 5Very good performance, but skip this model and just get the non wifi version. The WiFi is a pain to set up and really isn't all that worth it. I just gave up after banging my head against a wall and I work in IT! If you must have connectivity get the Bluetooth version I just manually put in the time and temp off of websites and then run it. We are talking about a couple minutes of difference maximum every time.

The gold standard for sous vide
Posted .Pros mentioned:Ease of use, For steak, Phone appThe Anova Precision Cooker is a top-of-the-line sous vide (immersion) cooker at a reasonable price. It’s design and ease of use are impressive, and the Anova website has a blog with lots of helpful tips. We have made reverse-seared steaks in the past, without a device like this. We made sous vide ribeye steak with the Anova Precision Cooker, and the steak came out great! We look forward to trying recipes for sous vide soft cooked eggs, lava cake, salmon and more. Pros: - Beautiful, ergonomic design with stainless steel to protect the heating coil and circulator assembly. Solid construction. - Easy to use; digital readout with intuitive controls. - Adjusts easily with clamp to most any pot or sous vide water container, with adjustable height for water level. - Ability to cook many different foods in vacuum bags, Ziploc bags, or Mason jars. Cook eggs in their shells directly in the water bath. - Bluetooth connection to iPhone or Android phone allows you to control the sous vide cooker. Free Anova app. - App has a good selection of recipes that are easy to follow. Cons: - As with any sous vide cooker, this requires patience. The slow process of heating food to a precise temperature is what makes the method so good.

amazing steaks!
Posted .Pros mentioned:Cooking, Ease of use, For steakCons mentioned:ErrorsDo you like cooking? Do you want to have the best steak of your life? Buy this! Whats in the box: The cooker, a mount for almost any pot and a small getting started guide. NO BAGS, you must provide your own sous vide bags. Setup: While optional to set up the wifi, you really should as the app is where this shines. It only took me a few minutes to set up the wifi and the app. Use: This is a very easy device to use and set up is simple. You mount the cooker to your pot, fill up the pot with water, throw in your food and wait. The app lets you search for recipes, and immediately send those settings to the cooker, so you don't have to do anything other than press start. great! If you do not want to use the app, the buttons (I say buttons, really just a touch screen) are easy to use. results: the most tender steak I've ever eaten. Seriously the results were amazing. Perfectly cooked and I didn't have to worry about over cooking at all. So far I have only cooked steak, and its probably worth the cost alone just for steak. I'm looking forward to trying chicken as well. Cons: When I first set up the cooker, I got an error message that the impeller was stuck. I followed the instructions on line to get it working. It was easy to do, but a little un-nerving that out of the box I got an error. It did cook fine for over 2 hours, and the water heated up quite quickly. The noise is the other con. While not loud, it is definitely noticeable. Noticeable enough you probably don't want to be in the same room as the high pitched noise will get annoying after a while. Overall: If you are serious about cooking, get this. It will open a whole new world of cooking.

Nearly impossible to mess up your food!
Posted .Pros mentioned:Ease of use, Temperature controlCons mentioned:InstructionsThis tool is a must in the kitchen! I absolutely love it! I would say that I am a fairly decent cook. I have made some great meals but even I slip occasionally and cook something for too long. Take porch chops for example. There is a fine line between under cooked and over cooked. That is where this precision cooker comes in! Simply attach the cooker on the side of a pot and fill the pot with water, ensuring that the water level is adequate. Plug the cooker in and touch the screen to make adjustments. The screen allows you to start/stop the cooker, adjust the temperature, and even set a timer. Once the cooker temperature is set, you mash start and watch the magic happen. The cooker constantly circulates water so that your food is evenly cooked no mater where it is inside the pot. The screen on the cooker updates constantly allowing you to know the exact temperature of the water. Once the target temperature is reached, simply place your seasoned food in a vacuum sealed bag or zip locked bag with the air removed. It is that simple. The first time I used it I cooked my pork chops for an hour. Once they were cooked I removed them from the bags, seared them on the stove for a few seconds on either side, and what I had was the MOST juicy, evenly cooked pork chop I have ever cooked! See the included photos! This precision cooker also connects to wifi! I know that may seem like a dumb feature, but it is actually really handy! Imagine prepping your precision cooker prior to leaving for your child's sports practice. If you know a rough estimate of when you'll be home, you can fire up the cooker from your smart phone and have it cooking while your gone. The app gives you instructions on what temperature to cook your food and how long to cook it for the desired tenderness. It even alerts you when your cooker is done! The only issue I had with the cooker was with pairing it to a wifi router. For some strange reason, it would not pair with a 2.4ghz router at one location I attempted to use it. Fast forward to when I got home, the cooker connected with no trouble. Not exactly sure why, but it works now. All in all, this is an awesome tool, especially for those people who may not be as good at judging when food is cooked. It is almost impossible to burn your food or over cook it. The water stays the proper temperature the entire time. Buy it! You will love it!

Q: QuestionDoes one need to buy a sealer for the bags? Are the bags bpe free?
Asked by Bigpoppa.
- A:Answer No, you do not need a vacuum sealer, you can put your food in a ziploc bag, don't seal the bag yet, then slowly put the bag into the water (opening end up) then the air will evacuate the bag. Seal the bag once the water level is at the zipper.
