A: No you do not have to activate with Boost. You can use wifi on it only. You may have to call Boost and ask them to unlock the phone so it's not tied to their network but you can use this on wifi only.

A: "prepaid" is a term used to describe the type of payment service you are using. Boost is a prepaid brand where paying upfront is how you maintain service
Q: Can I use this phone as just a camera or do I need to have it unlocked?
A: I'd recommend a different one if you're specifically looking at cameras, it's grainy, and the zoom isn't great. but I don't think the service provider matters either way (you don't need internet to take pictures).
