4.8(39)

The 70-300mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD (Model A047) for Sony full-frame E-mount mirrorless cameras is a telephoto zoom lens designed and created so photographers of all skill levels can enjoy high quality images comfortably. Tamron’s new 70-300mm F4.5-6.3 covers a broad telephoto zoom range yet is the world's smallest size and lightest weight, coming in at 148mm (5.8 in) long with a maximum diameter of 77mm, and weighing just 545g (19.2 oz). Users can enjoy high-resolution images combined with the stunning bokeh qualities that are achievable only with a telephoto lens. The lens also incorporates the RXD (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive) stepping motor unit, a high-speed precision AF drive system that is remarkably quiet. Tamron's Moisture-Resistant Construction provides extra protection, while various features that are built into Sony mirrorless cameras, including "Eye AF," are supported. The 70-300mm F4.5-6.3 is a versatile lens for photographing landscapes, sports and other action, pets and wildlife and more. The lens also demonstrates its potential for portrait shooting, casual snapshots and scenarios that require you to be mobile and shoot handheld, like sporting events. The apparent image compression and the close-up effects characteristic of telephoto lenses naturally amplify photographic expression. Zooming in on distant objects and making them appear closer is one of the joys of telephoto shooting. This zoom lens provides an entryway into that new world.

Great, underappreciated lens for the price

A very nice overall lens. The images are sharp throughout the zoom range, even toward 300mm. The out-of-focus areas are pleasing, and photos are nicely rendered throughout. I never noticed any chromatic aberrations, or perhaps they were well-corrected digitally. I had read reviews before purchasing that this lens feels 'plasticky'. That's somewhat true. However, it doesn't feel like cheap plastic. It seems to be well-engineered, it's very light, and still has weather sealing. OIS worked well on my X-T3, which had no in-body stabilization. As with many Fuji lenses, I wish the aperture ring wasn't 'infinite'. This is a variable-aperture lens, but I feel like they could have put hard numbers on the ring, and just auto-adjusted as necessary when zoomed in. Zoom action is very smooth. The manual focus ring feels fine, about as good as a focus-by-wire can feel. Focusing is quick and fairly accurate during birds-in-flight, for Fuji. I've heard other systems are better. This one always felt fine to me. I am selling this lens, but only because the 70-300mm focal range doesn't really suit my needs. I rarely found myself using the 70mm end of the lens, even though it took great images there. I find myself using my Tamron 18-300mm lens more, even though this Fuji lens is superior in image quality. When weight is a concern, I want the 18-300mm superzoom. When weight isn't a concern, I use a Fuji XF 16-80mm and Tamron 150-500mm to cover the ranges I want. If 70-300mm covers your needs, this lens is very good, and can't be beat for the price.

    Stellar telephoto option that's affordable!

Overall: If you want to expand your reach beyond the kit lens, this telephoto zoom lens is an great choice. Build Quality/Size: This lens is weather resistant (WR) and adds peace off mind when shooting in the dusty, rainy conditions. Considering its zoom range of 70mm-300mm it is fairly compact and weighted nicely, not too heavy nor too light. Comes with a good size plastic lens hood that will prevent any unnecessary sun flares. Zoom ring is fitted with a tactile rubber grip, and it turns smoothly without being overly tight. The manual focus on the other hand feels loose while turning, it is very smooth as your turn it, but definitely the least resistant I've felt compared to all the other Fuji lenses I own (10-24, 18-55, & 50 f/2). Not really an issue because I would rarely use manual focus anyways. Image Quality: The Images I get out of this lens is sharp with beautiful separation from the subject and the background. Bokeh is pleasing and smooth, it is very easy to isolate your subjects to give it that "professional" look. This lens has fast autofocus, even paired with my ancient Fuji X-T1. Features: OIS: The optical stabilization works really well, very quiet, and aids in nailing that sharp photo especially in the longer focal lengths because camera shake is even more pronounced the longer the zoom is. Since this is a newer Fuji lens there is no ON/OFF Switch in the lens body, it must be turned on/off in the camera. WR: Pair this lens with a weather sealed camera body and you can tackle pretty much any shooting conditions without much worry. Zoom Lock: The lens is equipped with a LOCK SWITCH on the lens body (prevents the barrel from extending when not in use) A common feature on most zoom lenses with barrel extending zooms, but the neat thing with their implementation of this feature is that it auto unlocks once your start moving the lens barrel. My previous 18-200 Nikon Zoom had this lock switch but it required you to manually unlock it each time - which can be costly when it comes to capturing fleeting moments in photography. Autofocus Limiter: The lens can be left on FULL (the autofocus system will go through the whole focus range as it tries to nail focus or you can leave it on 5m to infinity. Useful feature in specific scenarios. Its a nice touch considering its not a "red badged" professional XF Zoom lens. Things to consider: It is a variable aperture lens, so at 70mm it is f/4 which is nice and bright, but as you zoom to 300 the widest aperture is f/5.6 Misc Thoughts: Pair this with the Fuji 16-80 and you have a 2-lens kit that has OIS, WR and covers 16mm-300mm focal length. This lens is great for portraiture, also for macro type of shots, and anything that requires you to get closer to your subjects such as wildlife, bindings, sports, etc. The last two images I included shows the zoom capability from 70mm to 30mm.

    Great upgrade from 50-230mm

As an amateur photographer I didnt originally want to spend too much on a zoom lens since I rarely use but after using Fuji XC 50-230mm for a few years, I realized that I wanted a better quality lens. This is faster, sharper and has weather seal. Cant complain. Great glass!
