Refrigerators: Other considerations.
Choosing your new refrigerator.
Size.
The best place to start the selection process for your refrigerator is by determining the width, depth and height of the area where it will go. Keep in mind that ventilation space may be necessary at the top, back and sides, and that you may need enough side room to accommodate door hinges opening on one or both sides. You may decide to go with a counter-depth refrigerator, which is shallower so as not to stick out beyond 25-inch counters, giving the appearance of being custom-built, or one designed to fit within a built-in cabinet space.
Designs and door styles.
Once you've identified the space you have to work with, you can take a look at the different designs and door styles. If a two-door design with plenty of storage room and a lower freezer appeals to you, check French door refrigerators. Similarly, side-by-side door refrigerators also have two doors, with a freezer on one entire side. There are also models available with four or five doors. Or maybe you'd prefer a more traditional design, with a freezer on the top, or on the bottom. Keep in mind that you can also choose a standalone chest freezer or upright freezer if you need more space for frozen foods.
Finish.
Next, pick the finish from a wide selection, ranging from classic white to modern black to slate to stainless steel to the latest trend, black stainless steel. Ideally, you'll want to choose a finish that matches or complements your other kitchen appliances.
