A NECESSARY PRODUCT FOR ANOTHER NECESSARY PRODUCT

I included a purchase of an HP 564-XL Black Ink Cartridge along with my order of a new Hewlett Packard Photo-Smart model 6520 Inkjet Printer. It was my rather insistent request to the salesman that an extended-life inkjet cartridge be the only type included in my order, not the standard. From experience, I've learned to buy those which yield extended amounts of ink, since most inkjet printers use lots of ink and require ink replacements on a fairly frequent basis. The higher yielding cartridges, generally, are more convenient and end up as somewhat less expensive than buying cartridges with a standard yield. Indeed, I've heard that the compatible model of printer is one of those which does consume ink quite rapidly. I suppose the 564-XL should contain a reasonably sufficient ink supply to last awhile, though I would've preferred if the higher yielding ink cartridge, which Hewlett Packard does make, had been available at Best Buy. The reason I chose black, not a different color or a combination of colors, is in recognition that my use of wireless printing is primarily of documents requiring black ink, and, therefore, my need for extra black ink would be the priority. Further, the fact that my printing needs are seldom of colorful text or of pictures is a principle reason for my choice of inkjet printer model 6520, as this model printer has superior quality resolution on black printing in comparison to multi-colored printing. Since the printer comes equipped with small cartridges of black and various colors, I've not as yet had an opportunity to find how long this extended yield cartridge will actually last, yet this series ink cartridge is compatible with this particular model printer and purchasing it seems to be sensible. In brief, while I've indicated reasons for purchasing this ink cartridge, it's a necessary product compatible with another necessary product.

      Defective Ink

I bought 4 ink cartridges for my HP Printer. When I tired to install them, I got an error message saying the ink cartridges were not authentic. About 1 week later when I had the time, I tried to return the defective ink cartridges to Best Buy Aiea. At the customer service desk, I was met by store manager Shaun Troop who told me that once a ink cartridge is opened, they cannot take it back. I tried to explain that they were defective and I had just bought it. I told him if that is their policy I might as well buy ink from Costco now. How can you buy ink, then it doesn't work, and you are stuck with a defective item? Anyway one of their technicians tested it out and it read as empty. How could it be empty when it was new and I never even used it? To make a long story short, I bought 4 ink, they didn't work, and now I am stuck with ink that doesn't work and about $80. This would not happen at the Honolulu location where there is a different store manager who really makes your shopping experience a great one.

      Didn't fit.

Hard to believe, but HP changed the physical dimensions of this cartridge and did not change the model number. The cartridge Best Buy shipped did not fit in my printer. They changed the size in Sept 2010, but I suspect I received a cartridge that was sitting on the shelf for a while. Before I read the HP notes on this, I called HP customer support and they denied the size change had taken place. I returned the cartridge to Best Buy, and they nicely exchanged the cartridge for a more recent date code, same model number. That newer version of the cartridge fit just fine. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02435884&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en

I've had different printers but I always go back to the HP's. When buying ink, go for the XL - extra large - cartridges as they're a smarter way to buy & save your money vs. regular size. HP inks do what they are supposed to do - brilliant color & clarity. Also if you have the right HP printer, you can choose to use just the black ink for non-photos. Best Buy is the only place I buy my inks. Great prices & great service - I buy on-line and pick up in store. It's the easiest & most convenient way to buy when you know what you want & you just want to go into the store and pick up your item without hassles or having to walk around to get your item. Get more cash back by starting at upromise.com, and shopping Best Buy through there, where they give you up to 5% of your purchase back in cash through their partnership with Best Buy.

These batteries are a good value at the regular price. However, I purchased a box each of A, AA, AAA, C, and D batteries at $9 and $10 a box. A great value! They are always strong right out of the box and last as long or longer than so-called name batteries. It's also convenient to buy in larger quantities than name batteries. I was always running out but no longer. A side benefit I really like is the clear plastic cases these batteries come in. Regardless of size, all batteries are packaged with a lid that opens easily and snaps shut securely. There is a molded "slot" for each battery so everything stays put in the case and you always know when you are running low. No more rummaging through drawers looking for a battery. Overall, these bstteries are an excellent value!

I just wish this ink would last longer.....was told it should???? I don't use my printer ALOT but at least once or twice a week and the ink goes out like crazy.... ??The prices of this ink are outrageous too. Now I don't use my printer that much anymore. I miss printing but love my printer.. can't figure out why it eats up soooo much ink in such a little time. Wish you had this ink, in all colors and on sale more. Another thing is ... WHY do we need to have all 5 colors when I ONLY use the black color. Makes no sense to me other then ripping off customers to use all these cartridges ...BLACK IS ALL I NEED!!!!!! MY printer requires ALL 5 colors to operate...should I ever use color....I have my setting only on black but all other colors are used anyway???

Love the fact that when you put HP ink into HP printer, all issues go away. I think the paper jams even stop! Had a "generic" cartridge in my printer before and had lots of problems printing multiple papers- especially when printing quickly (using draft mode). Problems were more frequent after the cartridge was at 50% or less. Would rate it 5 stars but HP is so dang expensive! I remember times when HP ink cartridge was just as expensive to buy, as a new printer! Thats how I got my all in one! All in all, good printer cartridge. Highly recommend the "XL" size- more than twice regular cartridge ink.

This was either the first or second replacement cartridge purchased for my $75 HP Ink Jet printer. Install it and nada....nothing......do all the trouble shooting tips from HP and still nothing but blank pages. After much time surfing support forms find my problem is likely clogged printer heads.....a common problem for infrequent printers such as myself. I can buy a $25 kit online to clean myself or try home remedies to clean/unblock print head. So I have a $25 full cartridge I am not using at moment because of inoperable printer I have probably used two dozen times over two years. Think I need to go to a B&W laser printer since I don't really need color. To much costs (ink!!) and headaches with ink jets imo.
