A FANTASTIC NOTEBOOKPosted .I would recommend this to a friend
I went to all the computer store saying "I want an HP 17" 240GB Centrino Duo Notebook." Everything else, I could probably live without. Boy, was I wrong. This is my second HP notebook. I mainly bought this particular one vs another brand (Sony, Toshiba, Gateway) because I trust the name and you get more bang for the buck. This model has 240gb of memory; I need every last bit. I take lots of photos and I use it to store my iPod movies and songs. The Centrino Duo Processor is one of the best and fastest processors on the market. One problem that I had with my old HP notebook was it got hot fast. The fan was loud and it was on the entire time the computer was turned on. THE FAN IN THIS 9535NR IS SUPER QUIET! I love watching my DVDs on the 17" screen. The QuickPlay buttons are touchy, though. I have a habit of wiping off my computer and sometimes I brush up against the DVD button and the QuickPlay screen comes up. The TV tuner is an added bonus but I don't think I'll use it that much. If I traveled more I might. I haven't used the function where you can record tv yet. The notebook picks up networks like nothing (a/b/g/n). I can connect so much easier than what I had before; one of those card you put in the slot. And I love the 5-in-1 reader. Before I would have to find my USB reader. Now I just put the memory stick in and I'm good to go. The only downfalls I can think of is it's hard to find a good bag/case for a 17" laptop. Your options for bags/cases are very limited and it's a little on the heavy side. Also there is no Bluetooth built in. But I just bought a USB Bluetooth adapter. If you want an awesome computer, get the HP 9535nr notebook.

Excellent laptop for the pricePosted .I would recommend this to a friend
This is the first laptop I've ever owned. I've always been a desktop guy. I finally decided that I wanted some portability so I went ahead and purchased this one. First of all, let me say that I love it! It has a nice, wide screen that is crystal clear. The keyboard is nice and clicky as well. There are tons of USB ports on this thing. Two audio ports to plug in external speakers or headphones. A media reader slot for your SD card from your digital camera. It has HDMI export, s-video, and VGA to connect to external monitors or even and HDTV. You'll have plenty of breathing room with 2 GB of RAM. I run a ton of programs and rarely ever use over a gigabyte. The Geforce 8600GM graphics card is excellent for most games. Though some of the newer games will be a little choppy unless you reduce the quality in the game settings. I ran Far Cry at around 50 to 60 FPS at full graphics settings so I know the Nvidia card in this is great. Though it is hard to find drivers for the card. You can't get drivers for it at the Nvidia site so you have to rely on HP for the latest drivers. It has a dual core processor running at 1.5 Ghtz per core. This processor runs nearly twice as fast as my previous processor which was a 2.8 ghtz Pentium 4. The great thing about dual core is that you can run processor intense applications without it slowing down your PC. To test it, I ran Winrar and began compressing a large file and then started up some music in Windows Media Player. There was absolutely no slow down of my PC. It sent the Winrar process to one core and loaded Media Player and the music in the other core. To test it further I began compressing a SECOND file in Winrar at the same time as the first file and there was no noticable slowdown at all. I could still open applications quickly. Awesome! This thing also comes with two remotes to control Media center. One regular sized remote and one about the size as a credit card (and just as thin). You plug in the IR receiver to a USB port and it installs itself and your set to control media center with your remote(s). Plug in the included t.v. tuner and you can set up Media Center to watch and record your t.v. shows similar to a tivo but without the extra charge. I don't have cable but I can use the digital antennae that came with the tuner to pick up four local over the air high def stations. So I can watch high-def t.v. on my PC! The only complaint I have about the tuner is that the tuner card gets super hot. I can barely touch it when I pull it out of the slot. It also has a Lightscribe DVD burner. Burn a DVD, flip your lightscribe disc over and this thing will basically engrave a label on your DVD. You can customize the label however you want. You can even use your own pictures. Lightscribe is sweet! The only other thing I have to say is that you want to make sure you keep this thing set on a level surface. There are vents on the bottom that can NOT be blocked or you'll overheat the system. There is an internal fan on the bottom that will speed up or slow down depending on how much strain is in the system. If you are running processor intense apps or games then the fan speeds up to keep the system cool. Laptop is not a good name for this one. Keep it on a hard, level surface to keep the vents open or you'll fry this thing. Overall, this is a great PC for the price. I've seen gaming laptops that weren't even half this good and they were nearly twice the price. Make sure you get Best Buy's extended service plan with this to cover any problems you might have... I did :o)

Love ItPosted .I would recommend this to a friend
I Bought This laptop recently and i love it! A 17" screen, 2 gigs of memory a fast processor, 240 gigs of hard drive and a ultra fast nVidia 8600 video card! I love my new laptop im glad i bought this one. I listen to lots of music (I have like 5000 something songs) and i do like to rip my dvds to my new laptop (another 20 gigs) so it is very good to have this large hard drive. I Do play alot of games mostly fps and i love how this laptop handlees games. The details, the graphics and its not even using all of its CPU. The HP dv9535 is ultra-quiet it doesnt say much even if your playing a game while ripping a dvd and converting music at the same time so thats a good bonus for me. I use my laptop mostly for entertainement and i have almost stuffed my secondary hard drive of files. I am a DJ and this laptop is suitable for all my needs, it doesnt let me down while using CPU draining DJ programs like my last pc did and while im DJing i dont have to worry about the pc freezing or shutting down. If youre looking for a great and powerfull laptop to use for entertainement i would definitly recommend this laptop. You dont have to change out in the next 3-4 years beacause it has the newest technology in it, nVidia 8600, 2 gigs of memory and so on. I do recommend that you buy a external hard drvie to back everything up. I Bought a 500 gig external hard drive so you dont ever have to worry about space. An overall good laptop and a very good buy if your looking for a good laptop

Good All-Around LaptopPosted .I would recommend this to a friend
After working with desktops for a long time, I selected this as my first laptop and used it extensively during a two-week vacation trip. It was a bit more expensive than most, and I was wary of going to HP. having heard negative reports about its desktops. However, this looked like the best buy in the store, and I have not been disappointed. The wide screen display is excellent, but you must look at it straight on. The casing is sturdier than many other laptops, but that makes it a bit heavier. Be prepared to buy a carrying case (you should anyway). HP provides a handy little program that makes wireless connecting rather easy, but the program does slow up the boot process a bit. The dual-core processor is a plus, making the machine quite fast. I've got to admit that the DVD/CD drawer seems cheaply made and is awkward to load, but it works reliably. There are enough ports for just about any peripheral (USB and firwire) and a way to hook up to TV, though I haven't used that. The hard drive is ample, unless you're into storing mammoth video files, In a pinch, this laptop could serve as a desktop replacement, given its hard drive and 2 GB of memory. I would not pat more than the current going price for this (around $1,500), which is about right for a dual-core processor and 2 GB of memory. Compared to other makes that I looked at (Toshiba, Sony, Gateway), this is a winner, even though my desktops are Gateways. The only better choice might be Lenovo (IBM), but few stores carry that brand. Another tip: Unless you're a geek yourself, pay the extra bucks to have the Geek Squad set it up for you. Then it will be plug and play in a matter of minutes.

An experience I wasn't prepared forPosted .I would recommend this to a friend
First off, Geforce 8600m GS: nuff said! It has the future covered right off the bat with a Direct X 10 compatible graphics chip, and although the memory is shared DDR2, unlike Toshiba's 256mb GDDR3 Geforce Go 7900, it nevertheless is a NEWER GPU, which means that newer games will be optimized for its technology. Second, there's everything else you get. I was AMAZED the night I brought this baby home and opened the box. You get a HP ExpressCard TV tuner, which can recieve analog AND digital signals; couple this with your 360's MC Extender and you can watch and record TV on your 360, as well as on you notebook. The TV tuner bundle includes an awesome HP Media Buddy remote, with a USB iR reciever. The PC itself has a little tiny media remote, with basic Media Center functionality, which is remarkably compact, as it is the same form factor as the TV tuner: it fits in the HP Expresscard slot for safe keeping. It gets a 4.5 in Windows Experience Index. The system has an ergomic left-sided touchpad, which I navigate using two hands quite comfortably. The keyboard is set-in giving the system depth and style. There is a Media Touchpad above the keyboard, with basic media functions all handled via touch. Volume is handled by ssliding your finger either toward + or -. The screen is top-notch, even under powersaving modes. The speakers produce an exceptional listening experience, handled by Intel HD Audio (hook it up to some Sennheisers and get the most aurally pleasing sounds possible). And you get the I/O ports you need, all without the fuss of doors or hatches. And to top it off, the whole package is complete with THE MOST impressive (and strikingly stylish) finishes on the shell of ANY laptop/notebook I've ever seen.

Good multimedia laptopPosted .I would recommend this to a friend
I bought one month ago this laptop and it's exactly what I expected. the processor and the memory are good enough to run windows vista smoothly. The TV tuner (+remote) and the graphic card (Nvidia 8600m GS) combine together will provide a very good multimedia platform (play recent video games, record HD TV, and so on). moreover, it has 240 gigabytes in 2 Hard drives; I think it's very useful for people like me who wants to have a special hard drive dedicated to the OS and software and another one to store personal stuff. The only failure with the fan noise is maybe the HP update center for driver updates especially for graphic cards. if you want to play recent video-games like Bioshock, you have to have your driver up-to-date but HP doesn't provide current driver. the last one from HP has released 3 months ago... so you will have to go through non official drivers to update your laptop (not recommended if you are not a geek). Otherwise, it's a very good laptop and for the price you can't ask more! enjoy!

Great Laptop, great for gaming, or anything reallyPosted .I would recommend this to a friend
This is a great laptop, I picked it up the other day, and after updating the drivers(mostly the video drivers and you must get them from HPs website not nvidias, and never used vista before so it was a little tricky, however this is not the point.) This is a great great great laptop, I was running WoW on high in widescreen, something my desktop could even dream about(since its years old) Loaded call of duty 2 up, nice! and Bioshock Demo, the thing is I know it can run that however, I think its just the demo though, but it doesn't get past the intro, but the intro is running at high speeds on high settings by default and that is amazing. I can't believe I underestimated this baby, I know this will last me a couple years! If you see one and want something that can game, play movies, nice pack-ins(mini remote, regular tv like remote, pretty good earbuds) This is the laptop for you, and you dont' have to have $3000 dollars for the expensive gaming laptops. This thing is great and so is Vista!

GREAT OVERALL PC FOR EVERYTHING YOU NEEDPosted .I would recommend this to a friend
I am a traveler and like to do business webcam, chatting, and most of all gaming with the latest video games. The nvidia 8600m gs does a great job playing games like OBLIVION and Company of Heroes. It plays better than my 2.1 gig speed 5200 geforce fx 1 gig ram on my desktop would not even touch oblivion it dragged so bad. THIS LAPTOP IS A GREAT GAMER FOR ANYONE THAT CANNOT AFFORD a 3000 dollar ALIENWARE laptop very easy to use. everything works great and and the speed and graphics for this line of laptop is awesome. I would recommend this to anyone who looks for a great all around laptop without breaking the pocket book. I bought my laptop for a good price. with wireless router, carrying case, optical wireless mouse and auto cig adapter for dc plug it was not much more. Should do me for a few years to come.
