My boyfriend got the iHome iBT84 Bluetooth speaker which inspired me to look into options for myself. I watched several video reviews on YT and was blown away by the Pulse 3! I set it up as soon as I got home, which was very easy to do, and I was blown away by the sound on this thing. Believe it or not, the quality of music coming from this speaker is actually richer than from my $1000+ 4K Samsung TV. Truly. I was listening to Spotify from the Pulse 3 in my bedroom and when I went out to the living room I decided to switch it to the TV. My reaction was “oh ew...” and I immediately switched it back to the Pulse. Even though it was coming from *another room!* The app is a lot of fun to play with in switching between light shows, adjusting the brightness, etc. The volume buttons on my iPhone control the speaker volume, and the adjustment is visually indicated by rising/falling lights on the speaker, then once you’re done adjusting, it goes back to the light show. My only gripe is that there is no way to turn the device on/off from the app, nor is there a way to turn the lights off from the app. You can only switch between different light shows. So for example if you are listening late at night and still want to hear the music, but want the lights off, you have to get up and manually hold the Lights button in for like 2 seconds. The lights turn off and the music continues. Kind of weird that you can use the app to switch between ALL of the lighting options except “off” ... but that is more of a complaint about the app than the device itself, I suppose. Also a word of caution... I had the iPhone 6s when I first bought this and wasn’t overly impressed with the sync between music and rhythm of the JBL lights. It looked more like random light movement than crisp reactions to the music. My phone had been freezing and lagging in general so I ended up upgrading to an iPhone 8 like a week later. The JBL speaker performs *significantly* better now. The lights are much more rapid and crisp movements, perfectly on beat, rather than laggy and seemingly random. So make sure you have a device that can actually do this thing justice or you’ll be missing out on what it can really do.

I bought this to replace my Pulse 2, hoping for improved battery life, better lighting effects, and amazing sound quality. Out of those three categories, the battery life is only slightly better than the previous generation, but not quite living up to my expectations of 10-13 hours of playback at moderate listening level (with and without light effects). It couldn't make it through a 10-hour shift of mine. Despite this one shortcoming, JBL has delivered in spades across the board--improvements in all areas, technically. The lighting effects are mesmerizing. The sound is rich and deep. Water-proof index is definitely better than Pulse 2. My only area of concern lies in its construction of the light casing, which is definitely more prone to damages, such as light scratches, dents, and chipping. I never worried about this with Pulse 2 because it felt more durable from accidental drops and whatnot. Pulse 3 is bigger and better in every aspect, but be wary of handling it near rough surfaces and don't expect it to last as long as stated; it's incrementally better than its predecessor by at least 25%. If you are looking for a fantastic Bluetooth speaker, now is the time to grab one while it's still on sale. For all Pulse 2 owners on the fence, don’t hesitate to upgrade to this newer version. You can’t go wrong!

I take this thing with me every time I work out with my trainer at his gym. I took it with me in my bus when I ran Ragnar 2018. And I use it everytime my girlfriends come over to get ready to go out. Not only does it give me surround sound, but it also gives a unique and fun light show that bounces to the beat of the music that I'm playing. Honestly, it's been such a fun and enjoyable purchase, I would HIGHLY recommend to anybody. People are constantly asking me about it... I'm sure other portable speakers might give you slightly better sound quality, but unless they're in a side-by-side comparison, you would never know the difference. The light show in itself is a show stopper. Everybody loves it and I love having it!

Sound better than the Pulse 2 and has full 360 sound. Colors and patterns are beautiful but limited. Biggest complaint is with the new Connect+. I can understand that it isn't compatible with the original Connect, but it has some other major issues. If you connect one speaker via Bluetooth, you can't even select the Connect button in most cases. Sometimes, if you are quick, you can get them connected. Connecting 2 should allow stereo, however, the app sometimes doesn't allow it, even though "Party mode" works. Unlike the Pulse 2, these speakers don't remember what mode you used before...the always connect in party mode when the do connect. This means you always have to have the app running on the device that is playing. Bluetoothing to another device then using the Connect+ buttons to play stereo is out of the question. I really hope these issues get fixed. Right now, I went back to the Pulse 2s. (I have 2 of each)

I loved everything about this speaker except the most important thing...How it Sounds, The build quality is excellent and the light show is fantastic. The lights were so hypnotic and mesmerizing I almost kept the speaker for them alone. I would say the sound is excellent and if I hadn't compared it to another bluetooth speaker I would definitely had kept it. I happen to also own the Bose Soundlink Revolve Plus which just sounded so much better (imo) that I would always want to listen to it over the JBL. I know there is a $100 price difference between the two speakers so it's not a totally fair comparison for JBL. Having hear the Bose Soundlink Revolve which is priced at $200 as is the JBL I would say the Bose still sounds better and therefore would purchase it over the JBL unless waterproofing/light show are more important to you.

We bought two of these speakers for my son for Christmas in Nov. 2017. He has special needs and loves looking at the lights and listening to music. They were both working great until about a month ago when they started to not hold their charges even though they were charged over night. I went to plus one in and it made this loud noise and quit working. They are great when they are working. We have had the original pulse for over four years and have never had this issue.

Hubby is serious about his music n he loves it. Sound n base are important n it delivers. The music “light show” is really cool n it’s so portable. Wish it came with a case for the price. Con why 4.5 instead of 5 “Pairing” with another one isn’t great. Cuts in n out on one of devices ie connects n disconnected often losing appeal of louder n more base with 2 devices. Also if paired to phone n you get an email/someone calls it’s uber loud on speaker Overall VERY happy with purchase

The soud is great, well balance, the build quality is good, the ligths make it placent to look at. It's almost a perfect speaker, only for 2 things. The buttons ar hard to pres when your not looking to them. Also the battery it say 12 hrs and yes you get the 12 hrs at 45% volume with the lights turn off. But if you use the ligths and volume at around 80 %. Its only goin to last like 4 hrs
