  • Features
    • Hard Food Disposer: false (This feature has blades to chop and disintegrate hard food particles, making them small enough to easily drain away. This prevents them from being recirculated back onto dishware and allows for easy maintenance.)
    • Drying Method: Heated drying (Appliances that use heat to dry the dishes will include a heating element or minerals which transform moisture into heat. A fan or vent then circulates the hot dry air throughout the tub during the drying cycle. This may reduce drying time and the risk of water spots. Appliances that use minerals to produce heat are considered more energy efficient than those that include a heating element. Appliances that use condensation drying are considered more energy efficient than those that use heated drying. Instead, high temperature water is produced during the final rinse cycle which warms the interior and eventually condensates and drains out of the machine.)

  • FreeFlex third rack: The largest third rack available has a deep, angled design that fits 6" glasses, mugs, and bowls.

  • Four stemware holders in middle rack: Secure wine glasses along the side of the rack to prevent them from moving around during the wash cycle.
  • Express wash cycle: Cleans in less time so you always have the dishes you need while prepping, cooking, and entertaining.
  • Sani-rinse option: Eliminates most of food soil bacteria.
  • Top controls: Controls are tucked away on top of the dishwasher door for a clean look to match your kitchen style. The indicator light on the front of the door changes colors to subtly display the cycle progress.

Q: Comparing the KDTM704KPS and the KDTM804KPS on the KitchenAid website, there appears to be zero differences in features and functionality. It was mentioned somewhere that the 804 had a knife basket. Surely that can't account for $400 price difference?

A: Another vendor has a great breakdown of all the levels of the models, but there is an unlabeled version on the KitchenAid website, https://www.kitchenaid.com/major-appliances/dishwashers/third-rack.html (under STYLE Make it your own). Each includes the feature(s) of the lower level(s) plus the additional feature for that level. 404 = FreeFlex Third Rack 604 = Fan-Enabled ProDry System 704 = LED Interior Lighting 804 = Stainless Interior Accents

Q: After the whole cycle is finished, the drying fan keeps running until I open the door. Online is says this should only last 50 minutes, but after 2 hours the fan still runs, blowing cold air. Is this normal or does it just run until you open the door?

A: So I finally got in touch with someone at kitchenaid that was able to at least provide me some information. She said that the fan can run up to 8 hours after wash was completed or until the door is opened. I don’t think I have tried it for that long so I will let it hit 8 hrs and see if it turns off and report back

Q: I've looked at the kitchenAid Model# KDTM404KPS and see that you sell the kitchenAid Model# KDTM604KPS for $100 more than the KDTM404KPS at Home Depot. What's the difference in the KDTM404KPS and KDTM04KPS

A: I was compare shopping the 404KPS and 604KPS. The big difference I saw was the "Pro-dry" feature on the 604KPS. We spent the $100 and got the 604KPS. My wife says the Pro-Dry is worth the money. She says it works very well. It dries much better than any dishwasher we have ever had.

Q: Does it have a food grinder for hard particles? Is the filter removable for cleaning?

A: Hi techno. This KitchenAid® Dishwasher does not have a food grinder. You are able to remove the filter for cleaning.

Q: can you remove third rack Flex Free

A: Yes, you can remove both upper racks and the middle one can be moved up and down. The very top rack has a utensil rack that can also be removed. We cook a lot, and both my husband and I love the way this machine loads. The company clearly has put a lot of thought into it.

Q: Does it have a handle or not? The model shown here shows a pocket handle, and the Kitchenaid website shows it with the bar handle.

A: Two different models of the same machine. One has a pocket handle and this model has a professional look bar handle with top controls.

Q: can I use this dishwasher if I only have cold water access?

A: The manual states the following: "The dishwasher has a water heating feature and also requires a connection to a hot water supply line."

Q: How often do you have to clean the filter? Or is there a self-cleaning filter like the former KDTM354ESS?

A: Hi RPMM. The pump is protected from large objects entering it by the foreign object cup in the front and below the lower rack. The maintenance free filter system does not require any regular cleaning or maintenance. If this cup fills up with particles or objects, depress the tab in the center and pull up on the cup to remove it. Dispose of the contents and then replace the cup. To replace the cup, put into the opening and push down to lock in place. You can access the product help and demo pages for this unit by going to the following link: http://bit.ly/3eiskvp

Quiet and spacious, but runs too long

First the positive: It is large inside, fits everything our family of four dirties in one day. It also cleans well. I usually soak dishes in some water if they'll sit around all day so any dishwasher should clean it well. Finally, it's quiet, very quiet. We've had it for two months and use it daily. My big complaint is that it doesn't have a quick wash. The 'express wash' is an hour and ten minutes. Really? And if you don't stop it right after that it goes on drying for hours. This isn't what I want. Why not a half hour cycle like my old one? It should at least be an option for those who want it. I stopped it after an hour just to see and everything was perfectly clean. Annoying. My electricity bill went up. Some efficiency standards! Things that run for longer don't save energy, they use more. Don't tell me it is more efficient, I won't believe it. One more thing - the top rack is awesome. You can actually fit a lot up there like cups and spatulas and shallow bowls.

    Great dishwasher

I waited a month before writing the review. I think I have an accurate understanding of how this machine is. The bottom line is it’s a very solid efficient and super quiet dishwasher. I have never had a single cup or bowl come back dirty and my only complaint would be not understanding the bottom row on how to stack my dishes. Also not sure how important that third rack is it does have extra spray jets up there and I only use it for pot lids knives and spatulasBut as far as how it works runs and operates it’s been fantastic. I’d also like to mention it looks fantastic in the space I actually really like to handle so I can hang a dish towel on it I thought I’d be walking into it or bumping into it but that is not the case is very streamlined. Also Bestbuy did do my installation for free because of some issues w previous DW the install crew was awesome

    Best dishwasher I’ve ever owned!

This is the best dishwasher I have ever owned! I wish my old one would have died sooner! Dirty plates go in, sparkly clean ones (and they’re dry too!) come out. I can get 3 sauce pans, an instapot, 2 mixing bowls, soup pot, 10 dinner plates, 6 glasses and 6 mugs, a bunch of leftover containers all in one load and it cleans so well! Forget to run water over the dinner plate a few days ago? No problem for this dishwasher. I really want to just hang out at the store and tell anyone looking at dishwashers to get this one because I’m that thrilled by it. We have the 604 model with the extra drying power. The third rack is awesome and unlike other brands it can hold 12 glasses and a bunch of silverware. I put mugs with coffee marks on them or muffin in a mug with no prewash and it cleans them perfectly. It may be on the expensive end of dishwashers but it is absolutely 100% worth it!
