    Great computer for our needs,

A great computer. I have had a Lenovo laptop for a few years and really like the fact there are no junk programs installed from the factory. This is perfect for my wife’s needs helping a grandson with his homework. I really like the ssd drive. I also like the wireless mouse and keyboard. Since it is an all in one there is no tower sitting around.

A great machine for light office and homework.

This is a great machine for light-duty tasks. Since it is an “al- in-one,” it is easy to setup with the only cable being the power brick. This would be a perfect computer for light web browsing, streaming, and using an office suite. No excess cables also means that this would be a good choice for grandmother. The box that it comes in is large. The computer is packages snugly inside with giant blocks of foam, which might not be recyclable (if this matters to you). Also included is a wireless keyboard and mouse, including batteries. These accessories are of good quality. They are not exceptional, but they are completely usable. Note that the USB receiver is inside the mouse, so that will need to be removed and plugged in. The power brick is 90W, so it could have used USB-C power, but instead uses a proprietary Lenovo power plug. Since this is not a laptop and is not intended to be moved, this is acceptable. The monitor portion is quite good for the price, with the screen being adequately sized for the 1920x1080 resolution. It does not get very bright, but should be good enough for the average office. It is fixed at 100Hz which is surprisingly good for a machine like this. I am surprised that it is not fixed at 60Hz. However, increased refresh is mostly a benefit for gamers, which is definitely not the target audience. The monitor has some ability to tilt forwards and backwards, but there is absolutely no ability to adjust the height, short of setting the computer on a book to raise it up. Of course there is no rotation ability, so it cannot be used in portrait mode. Above the monitor is a camera that is perfectly usable and should be good enough for video conferencing. It also features a camera disable switch on the side of the main vertical column, which is a nice feature to have for privacy. However, the camera does not support “Windows Hello” nor is there a fingerprint reader, so logging in will require a password. The sound is also serviceable, getting decently loud, although the sound is somewhat tinny. There are laptops out there with much better sound. Still, for listening to classes on-line, it should be adequate. There is a jack to allow the use of external speakers, but that would ruin the “all-in-one” nature of the setup. As to the performance, it falls firmly into the “good enough” category. It has an Intel U300 chip, which one performance core and four efficiency cores. This should give good performance for light-duty tasks. This is also an efficient low-power processor, so it does not even need a cooling fan. This computer is completely silent. The only area that I can criticize is the memory setup. There is only 8GB of RAM, and it is a single SODIMM module. This much memory is generally enough, but not a lot left over. Doubling the memory would extend the usable life of this computer. The fact that it only uses one memory module means that it gets half of the usable bandwidth, but this also means that a similar memory module can be installed, meaning that an upgrade should be affordable. But as to upgradability, I am not certain that the target audience for this type of computer could do an upgrade. It is easy enough to pull off the back cover (tilt the monitor all the way forward, and yank on the plastic plate on the back). Next, there are eight screws to remove, and the monitor cable on the side has to be unplugged. Swinging away the cover yields the two DDR-5 memory slots (of which one is occupied), a single M.2 slot with a mere 256GB of storage, and a replaceable WiFi module. Finally, the OS is a fairly vanilla Windows 11 Home edition, but it does include McAfee, which should be immediately removed. It will also occasionally nag you to register, and with advertisements for services like Dropbox, which is annoying. So, overall, this is a solid machine that is great for light-duty tasks, and would be suitable for people who don’t use demanding applications.
