The M1 professor is the fastest professor I have a ever had in a laptop. I have always had windows pc like the Lenovo yoga series but this MacBook Air is a must if you want to bust your productivity. I always wanted to have a mac and this is the best way you can enter in the apple ecosystem.

a Gold 8/512 M1 MBA gem!
|Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5M1 MBA is a top notch performer, and a very noticeable upgrade over my 2017 intel MBA. the 512gb drive is just right for my needs at this time. The open box pickup experience was quite smooth, far better than I have had purchasing in store on occasions.

Apple silicon really revolutionizes the Macbook
|Posted .Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Pros mentioned:Battery, Design, PerformanceCons mentioned:Compatibility, PowerWow. Really revolutionary. What you're getting with this is a mac with a beefed up version of the processor in your ipad/iphone. This might not seem like a big deal, but it really is. The previous mac processors using intel are not bad, but intel processors have been best at higher-power desktop pc's and servers. The laptop processors are stripped down versions of that, that still use a decent amount of power. Now these mac processors have always been designed with efficiency in mind, and apple has gotten really good at making them over the past 10+ years with iphones and ipads. Now that they are beefing them up to work in macs, we have an incredible machine. This computer can play some games (world of warcraft runs great, as does league of legends), edit some movies, watch hours of videos, and do so while barely draining the battery, and hardly getting warm. Truly incredible. What apple has done behind the scenes to have intel mac programs working is marvelous, for 99% of apps you won't even realize it's going on. If you have something fairly niche, there might be compatibility issues, but for most things, it's flawless. Within a year, most modern apps will be converted to run with no intel-apple silicon conversion anyway. For those who have used macs a long time, this feels like the powerpc to intel transition all over again. Suddenly, we are greeted with this enormous performance opportunity. Excited to see what the future holds for macs. I do think it is likely that apple will change the laptop physical design within the next year or two, and that may cause some people to want to wait, which is understandable.

Like it thus far!

Quality4 out of 5Value4 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Pros mentioned:DesignSo far so good! Working fast and efficiently. Beautiful color. Design is the same as the previous model but the inside feel of it is new. Such as slight enhancements to the apps icons in the main computer screen. Was worried about it heating since its fanless but no issues so far..I've used it for only about 2 days now. So let's hope it stays great! There were a few lags here and there but that was maybe because of my internet or idk? But I still like it currently. I use it for college work and also personal use. I also did some light video editing on it. (I'm not a pro yet) I wanted to get the 16gb ram but bestbuy didn't have the option to upgrade. So its ok as I've heard 8gb should be fine for the majority of users.

The little chip that could...
|Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value4 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5I debated long and hard whether it was worth the money to upgrade from my previous 12" macbook to the new M1 powered Macbook Air. On paper, the specs seem very similar (memory, SSD) but after owning this thing for the past two weeks I can say that the M1 is every bit the phenom is is made out to be. I would slate the battery life to be at least 2x what the 12" Macbook was or than what my work 13" Macbook Pro is. I was concerned about compatibility with the new chip architecture, but I found that even those feisty plug-ins can be installed on top of the Rosetta 2 architecture without problem. (Tip: I chose to install the x86 version of chrome to be able to use when plug-ins didn't support the ARM chip, but so far I only use it for flash and one proprietary work plugin) Bottom line - this thing is great with half of the apps not even optimized for the chip yet. I am totally happy with it now, but also expect it will get better as more developers move to support this chipset. I'm now comfortable recommending it as an upgrade for family members who I have to provide support to. :)

Simply Blown Away
|Posted .Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Pros mentioned:Battery, LightweightCons mentioned:Memory, PriceSo, let me start this by saying that I was super skeptical when I first heard about the new M1 chips being released by Apple. I figured like years past, this would be a minuscule upgrade, with nothing significantly different. But, after seeing some reviews on this where people were stating they were blown away with the amount of performance they were seeing, I had to give it a look. I am glad I did. I will preface this by stating that my journey to finding the "perfect" laptop has been a long one. I came from a 2015 MB Pro that I had for approx. 2 years before it died, upgraded to a 2017 MB Pro with Touch Bar which had been my daily driver for about 3 years. I have always been underwhelmed with the 2017 MB Pro's performance as it always froze up opening the most basic task, and you could forget about photo or video editing. Not exactly living up to the "Pro" in the name. So, when looking for a new laptop I decided to give Windows a try. After returning a HP Spectre X360 for quality control issues, I settled on a Lenovo Yoga C940, but still found flaws: overheating, thermal throttling, crashing apps and terrible, terrible battery life. I ended up switching back to the MB Pro despite that its age is showing. I am stuck with a Lenovo that I cannot return. Buyer's remorse, indeed. Cut to a few days ago, I on a whim decided to give this MBA a try. I thought I would be "downgrading" by not getting a Pro, but I am a college student on a budget, and I had hopes that this computer would fit my needs and I wouldn't have to shell out the extra money for more performance. I am glad I opted for the MBA. I can see why the MBA is popular among college students: it's lightweight, fantastic battery life, and the "wedge" shape adds to a better, more ergonomic typing experience, which is important to me as I type essays and assignments very regularly. So, to get down to the nitty-gritty. Can it perhaps be my everyday, everything, every use-case computer? I can safely say yes. The performance on this blows my $1600 Lenovo with 16GB of Ram and Intel 10th gen i7 out of the water. I can have multiple Safari tabs going, iTunes in the background, Adobe Photoshop or Premeire Pro running at the same time and it doesn't even break a sweat. To say that I was blown away is an understatement. This little 8GB ram, 3.2 Ghz M1 MBA is making most higher-end workhorse computers look weak. Another thing I love? It's fanless! One of my biggest pet-peeves are laptops with terrible fan noise and poor heat management. On this, it is not an issue. No fan? No problem! Stays nice and cool, and no fan noise. IDK how Apple managed it. Also, the improved keyboard is a nice change from the butterfly keyboard issues my 2017 MB Pro was plagued with. I can actually type on this one and not feel like my fingers are hitting bottom. The speakers, for such a thin and light laptop, are fairly decent as well. Decent stereo separation and punchy. Could do with more bass. But again, small computer, small speaker drivers. To be expected. The screen is also good, covers my needs for photo and video editing with a good amount of color accuracy. No complaints. I cannot attest to the webcam as I don't use it, but I am sure it will do in a pinch. To sum up: great computer, great value. Unless you are editing videos 24/7, I would recommend this one over the new MB Pro. Save some $. This thing can handle anything you have to throw at it. I have a very demanding work-flow as a graphics design student and I am simply blown away. Would definitely not hesitate to recommend to anyone in the market for a new daily driver.
