I was looking for a new laptop to take with me on eSports outings, so I didn't have to keep tearing my desktop down and transporting such a heavy system. I have an Alienware M17R4 laptop already, but not with the latest graphics. I'd been keeping an eye out for the 50-series laptops to come out. When I saw this MSI Vector 16 HX AI initially being offered at BB, I jumped at the chance to purchase. Being so new, there aren't many reviews out there, but I took the chance anyway. It's an outstanding laptop to start with. I've only had it a day, but I've been putting it thru the tests. So far, wow! I'm not seeing the issue with the fan noise that one reviewer said. He'd said that it could be 60db and is quite load. I have yet to hear it spin up for be as loud as he was claiming, and it's been running heavy tests for an hour. I know most folks will look at that being a critical factor on whether they purchase or not. Maybe I've gotten used to loud laptop fans, but I'm not really noticing it at full load. It's very quiet on balanced. I wouldn't even known the fans were running if it hadn't been sitting on my lap. I can feel the air being pushed and doing its job. The casing was the guys second complaint. I would swear, mine is a metal alloy on the bottom and outer top. The keyboard deck is plastic, but it is pretty stiff and not flexible. The Intel Ultimate 9 series 2 processor I do think will be the limiting factor on speed. It's not as fast as an Intel i9 14900HX. But it's an excellent compromise to get more battery life. The NVIDIA 5080 is a beast. The initial setup didn't take too long, about an hour to finish. There was very little bloatware. While I'm not a fan of the MSI Center, it's adequate. I consider it bloatware, but what can you do? My complaints about this machine? There are a few. First off, it isn't OLED or Nano or HDR. But the screen is 240hz and is bright. I haven't noticed too much tearing yet, but I will continue testing with other demanding games to push the limits. The next is the keyboard. It does have a weird feeling to it. It's a basic keyboard, chiclet style. It only has 24 zones for RG lighting, but I would have expected per key like on my Alienware. The keyboard also feels a bit squished, but it works and I'll get used to it as time goes by. The keypad... wow.. could they have gone any smaller? That one will REALLY take some getting used to. It is functional, but I wouldn't suggest by touch. That's it... do I recommend the MSI Vector 16 HX AI? Absolutely! It's a great price compared to other similarly configured laptops. There are some compromises that you will need to consider. Is this laptop for everyone? Probably not. Each person has their own requirements and needs. This machine fit mine!

Display is good, about as good as an IPS can be. Hit 23.6k in Timespy graphics benchmark with just the "Extreme Performance" preset in MSI Center. Easily sustains 175W to the 5080 after the most recent driver update and ~75W to the CPU so performance is excellent. Fans can get loud, but the large vents on the bottom mean that using a cooler like a GT500 will help a lot with keeping temperatures low. Build quality feels good even if the design does feel a bit dated compared to some of the other options like the Strix or Legion, though those are easily $500+ for the same specs. Easily the best value 5080 laptop at the moment.
