Got this with my new D7000 and once tried, surprised me with how fast the AF was and how good the picture actually was. I have twelve Nikon lenses (and have owned Canon systems) and feel for the small difference in the 'kit' price this lens is extremely good for the money. Even at $399. full price, it's a good deal. This lens is for anyone who needs a moderate, very usable zoom range and the picture quality from the superb glass that ONLY Nikon makes. Nikon systems don't over process their images with noise reduction like Canons do....and you can see that in the sharper, clearer quality photos.

I am a visual art student majoring Graphic Design at college. I needed a good camera and lens for my Photography class, so I decided to take this lens kit opportunity. I am still trying to figure out how to use this lens on my Nikon D7100 camera very class but definitely this is a useful lens not only for amateur/semi-pro/professional photographers (for their sub camera) but also those who are going to be an artist like me.

compatible with the dx camera's from Nikon. Can be turned to be automatic. However, lens is not ideal for school performances. It does not provide enough zoom when standing in the back of the auditorium for school performances. Consider the 18-205mm lens if you do not want to carry two lenses and having to change lenses.

Love this lens for all around general use. Had to replace original that came with camera due to a break on the threading after a few years and warranty expiration which is why not giving 5 stars.
