After missing so many pokemon games in between, I recently played pokemon X and most recently omega ruby. After completing both of these games, here is what thought of omega ruby. *************************************************************************PROS************************************************************************* Combat/level up gameplay: This is the number one reason to play the game. It offers strategic combat and rpg like leveling system. I find such gameplay to be highly addictive. I like the ideas of unlocking new moves by leveling little monsters and creating a unique team to overcome a variety of challenges. Evolution/Mega-evolution: This is what really got me into the pokemon series. Not only you combat and level up with your pokemons but many of them evolve into meaner and tougher creature as combat and level them up. I really love the design of some of them. I also like the the concept of mega-evolution. It pumps the combat with even more energy. Story/Journey: I found the story/journey of this game to be the most fun of all the pokemon games I have played so far. I especially liked the ending scence after you become the champion. With me exploring as much as I can on my own, this game has lasted me 80 hr plus. Post-game bonus story: As if the story was not enough, this game offers a post game story called delta episode where you dive even deeper into the main story while combating new foes and catching rarer pokemons. Love it. Variety of pokemon: This is perhaps one of the strongest suit of this game. It offers a huge variety of pokemons. So most likely you will find some companions you will enjoy through your journey. And if you are collector, you will find yourself playing this game for a very long time. Legendaries: This game has a decent amount of legendaries. Some say that is too much. I say there is no such thing as too many legendaries. I enjoyed catching all of them. Open world/rematches: Like previous game, it is an open world system that you gradually unlock. Liked the idea of re-visiting places and having rematch with different in story players. Graphics: Big improvement in graphics compared to games before pokemon x/y. Definitely makes playing this game more rewarding. Timing(the good): A lot of things such as mega evolution and certain legendaries are unlocked relatively early in the game. A big plus!! Online component: Online battles, trading etc. is also a plus. *************************************************************************CONS************************************************************************* Missed opportunities/Timing(the bad): I feel that after so many generations, they should start unlocking things even earlier. For example a huge variety of regular as well as legendaries are not available to you till near the last gym. I feel that is too late. I say after 4th gym is a good time to unlock variety of pokemons. That way player can play with pokemon of their choice. Towards the end you do end up getting access to these pokemons but then there is relatively less to do with them (still this game is better than X/Y in terms of the post game activities.) Also not every journey needs to start with new novice character. After so many generation, it may be time to have an experienced character start the game and have early access to things such as mega-evolution. *************************************************************************CONCLUSION************************************************************************* I really enjoyed playing this game for the reasons described above. I am hoping I won't have to wait too long for the next installment in the series.

Omega Ruby is excellent remake that truly stands out among the others in the franchise. With over 700 different Pokémon you won't get bored searching for new ones, but on top of that it gives old players of the originals a great sense of nostalgia and good memories. That's not to say that this game isn't for newcomers, because they will have just as much fun with this game than the nostallic players. Graphics: The 3D graphics look awesome on the 3DS, and everything from the Pokémon to the environments look great in the new edition. Gameplay: If you've played other Pokémon titles then you know what to expect. It's the same old fashion game, but of course with a polished update that makes the series feel fresh and entertaining. What's Different: Of course X & Y introduced Mega Evolve and this game is no exception to that new type of temporary Pokémon evolution. For players who didn't play the last games in the franchise just know all you have to do is find special stone to make your Pokémon do this special evolution. I don't remember if this was in the original, but in the 3DS remake you can actually sneak up on Pokémon you see hiding in the grass. Story: The story isn't the best, but then again the gameplay and catching Pokémon is what matters in a Pokémon game, and it more than excels at doing those two things very well. Bottom line is that Pokémon Omega Ruby is a must play for all fans of the series.

Though it still falls short of Black/White (fifth gen) in story and character quality and thus takes its place as my second favourite in the Pokemon series, ORAS (third gen remakes) are still objectively the best in the series. Third-gen has always had by far the best world/map in the series, being a well-designed, highly diverse, and very creative location in the form of Hoenn. Places visited include a desert, a treehouse town, an indoor city, a town inside of a dormant volcano, island chains, underwater, a town built to float upon the sea, a volcano town featuring hot springs and raining soot, and more! Upon the wonderful foundation of the amazing third gen Pokemon games is a set of improvements. The most obvious is that it takes the best new aspects of the disappointing X/Y (sixth gen) Pokemon games, most notably the 3D graphics engine. These improvements are merely applied to a much better game in this case. Meanwhile, new additions like sneaking up on Pokemon in grass make for a much more interesting addition to the series mechanically, as well as for a world that feels more "alive" than ever before. If you have ever liked Pokemon or have even the slightest inclination towards playing this, choose Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire.

For those who don't know, Omega Ruby is a remake of Pokemon Ruby for the Game Boy Advance. The plot features the familiar Pokemon fare: train pokemon, win badges, stop a terrorist organization from conquering/destroying the world, and become the Champion of the Pokemon League. This particular entry in the series offers additional post-game content, which is something of a diversion from the norm. Experienced players will need to find ways to provide a challenge, but those unfamiliar with RPGs will find this a great introduction to the genre. Level design is similar to the original while making some noticeable changes in a few areas. Controls work well, with or without the stylus. The new DexNav feature shortens the time it takes to track elusive pokemon, and with patience it ensures that you get stronger-than-normal specimens. Animations can get a bit repetitive if you use the same pokemon continuously, but with over 700 different 'mons, there's a lot of variety nonetheless. Music is lighthearted, and feels grand and cheerful. Overall, I'm pleased with the game.

I'll try to avoid spoilers as much as possible in this review... somewhat hard to with the extras that are included. First thing... it is a Pokemon game. They've been making them for long enough that most people know what they are signing up for. A "kids game" that has some excellent RPG elements to it. Gotta Catch em All. Weaken your opponent, POKEBALL GO! Second thing, it gives you the complete Ruby/Sapphire experience. Full game, second playthrough. If you liked it 12 years ago, you'll appreciate experiencing it in 3D with the updated character models, and mega evolutions of some of your favorite pokemon. The real reason I gave this 5 stars is the additional content they added. Without spoiling too much, I will say that you can get EVERYTHING you got in original Ruby/Sapphire... and they add some additional content in the Delta Episode (you'll know it when you get to it).

Fun to play with. This game is just AMAZING! I am not a gamer taking my time and talking to every person in the game, I finished the game in about 10 days on top of other things. I really like how you can re-battle previously fought trainers as many times as you want. I'm especially glad that the game doesn't have roller blades in it because that kind of ruined pokemon x and y for me. The graphics are amazing and the sound quality is great. Also, after defeating the elite four, there is an additional delta episode featuring the legendary pokemon rayquaza. I'm not really big on reviews but I just want to say one last time that this was the most anticipated game for me this year, and I think Nintendo has done an amazing job creating such a great game. Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire is such an awesome experience and is perfect for all ages.
