I asked the same question when I bought mine. The sales rep explained that Insignia is Best Buy's store brand and they can build the units at a relatively inexpensive cost. He assured me that the parts were all from name brand suppliers. You are simply not paying for the "NAME". I've only had mine for a month as of this writing, but have had good success (see my review for more details).
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I can answer this question. It's because it is total junk. We're on our third replacement of this laptop. The keyboard is seriously flaky and has died twice on us. Also, we got a Windows update that disabled the WiFi card and the Geek Squad folks weren't able to fix it (had to be replaced). I'm currently on this site to set up for another replacement (this time I'm getting my money back so I can get something different) because the keys have stopped working (even though the LEDs and trackpad still work).

Also, don't expect this tablet to scream through any major processing requirements so this is not going to be your new gaming rig. However, when you get a good working one (our fist had to be returned due to a keyboard issue) this is actually a very nice little tablet / mini-laptop depending on how you attach the keyboard.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.the Microsoft SURFACE 3 has a 1440P screen, this insignia is only 1080P that is fine if you want to watch videos the surface also has better parts such as display port out, the insignia is HDMI out only the surface 3 also has an X7 processor, the insigina is the lowest powered X5 if you are not going to use microsoft office to do work, they are both fine for entertainment
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This entire answer is IMHO after buying and returning one. Read my review of it. For the most part they didn't waste money on unnecessary stuff. It's very efficiently designed and uses technology that has reached commodity pricing. It's really brilliant but one FATAL flaw. The touchpad is too cheap and renders it unusable. I wanted a 1080p or better display with good network and full windows that I could use kind of like a cloud terminal. Cheap enough that if I ruined it I could buy another, They cut things of no use to me like high powered processor. I needed enough to run Windows and pump hivres display bits in and out of one app st a time. That doesn't take much so it can be cheap
