• The subwoofer does make a difference but you can do it without if you want. It's good basic sound without it.

• Abilene, to have the complete surround sound experience you would need to add the subwoofer and rear wireless speakers. However, just adding the Roku Smart Soundbar will be a huge increase to any TV sound. The nice thing is you can add the additional speakers at any point.
