“There seems to be conflicting responses to the question of "is there a on/off button on the TV". When I enlarge the frontal picture of the TV there does seem to be an on/off button. This is an important feature to me before purchasing this TV.”

Yes the tv does have an on/off button, it is located on the right side of the tv along with buttons for volume and channel.
