• Yes. It will attempt to syphon the water from the reservoir up to the the cooling unit, but when it registers it is out of water it will power itself off.

• It does not power off, if that is the question, but it does stop operating. There is a light on the front that indicates the unit is low on water

• Yes, it shuts off when the ice bin is full and when the compartment is out of water. However, I've noticed if you don't empty the ice bin, like overnight, it's not cold enough to keep the ice frozen, so the ice will slowly melt. That lowers the ice bin and triggers the unit then to start making ice again.

• When the unit gets low on water it goes into a stand by mode. Basically a light flashes and it does nothing else until you fill the reservoir. The ice maker does the same when the ice bucket is full. It’s a great unit and well worth the money.
