• Usually on newer flat panel TVs connecting a VCR would use an RCA cable (Red, White, Yellow). "Most" of them also require you to change the input to component, not channel 3 or 4 like the older sets.

• I had trouble changing the channels as well but I found out I have to use the cable box remote instead of the remote that came with the tv.
