purchased this tv for my daughter and there are no fees associated with roku itself, but there are fees for channels like netflix, hulu, etc. There are some free channels available but it's like classic tv and movies. If you select netflix it will offer you free month subscription then fees will be charged after that...amount of fee will be based on plan you get. Hope this helps.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Not sure what you mean buy "once a year fee". There are NO fees for a lot of the Roku channels. Yes, there are some where you need to pay a fee, but if you already have an account with, say, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, etc, you simply log into your existing account and access it through the TV like you would any other device you currently access those channels. I have 4 Roku devices and I pay NOTHING for any of them other than my subscription fees for Netflix, Hulu, etc. If you already have account(s) with streaming services, the Roku TV is an outstanding way to watch content from those services and is the prime reason why I bought them.
