• You cannot watch the tv without the Roku remote. Perhaps buying another Roku device may help. I'm not sure about the codes that are needed to match. Maybe contact Roku would be the best answer. Good luck!

• They said you can operate the TV with the Rolu app on your smartphone. I tried it wothy regular Roku and it was great. I have not tried to operate this TV in that way. When it connects, it may give different features based on which product you have.
