Avoid surround, be a man, and get you a starter system Pilgrim ! You could also use an Audioengine 2+ system for $250. This gives you great sounding speakers, built in amp and will run off the audio output jacks on your TV. I own this system for use in my office and it still amazes me with its clarity and wonderful sound.
