If your Fios remote is universal you can find the universal remote codes at support.vizio.com other wise you would need to use the remote or voice commands to ensure you are on the correct input then use your Fios remote to control the channels.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can use your cable remote for power and volume controls ... unsure about input . You’ll want to be able to switch input yo your HDMI for the cable box. I had issues with Spectrum and this, especially as the tv likes to boot itself into Vizio Cast and the smart screen from time to time.

What makes it "smart" is you can connect to the internet, and it has various apps like Netflix, Sling, etc that you can watch tv shows and movies through. Now onto your question. Do you have a "cable box" you'll be using the remote with? If so, then yes, you are correct with using the Verizon remote. On another question, not sure how much you pay for cable, nut I'm sure it's a lot more than if you stream your tv shows with either HULU, or Sling, or YouTube TV, etc. It sounds like you're already paying for the internet with FIOS, get rid of your cable and save some money. Just a suggestion.
