Yes, you can absolutely use a USB Ethernet adapter to connect to the internet. I use the Plugable 3-Port USB 3.0 Hub with Built-In 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN Network Adapter and it increased my upload/download by more than 2x. You just plug it into the USB 3.0 port on the Chromebook then plug your ethernet cable into the adapter and Chrome OS automatically recognizes that you are connected to ethernet. Very simple.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. On a number of occasions I have used ethernet adapters with either one or the other of my two chromebooks in order to establish an internet connection. One chromebook is almost three years old. The other, which happens to be the Acer advertised here, I have had a couple weeks. The adapter has worked just fine with both.
