“The USB 2 connection. Why would a mfg still put a USB 2 connector on a PC since all USB 3 connectors are reverse compatible? Is there that much of a cost difference between the two?”

• The USB 2 is purposely included because it is an "always on" port so that you can charge any device even when the laptop is off.

• There are some programs that require you to plug your cable into a usb 2.0 port rather than a 3.0. I have run into this in the past when unlocking phones, it specifically says to use your 2.0 port. I would gather that other programs must also require it.
