If your files are on a usb flash, then they are probably in FAT32 and would read fine (assuming no corruption.) In fact a usb connected hard drive would probably read just fine as long as it was either FAT32 or NTFS. That's just to read the physical media. You will need apps that can read the files. If those apps are as old as Vista, then you'll just have to try it and see, or export them to an intermediary format. Office files should be fine, because any new version of office can probably read the old file formats. I hope this helps.
