“Will this be able to hold the software "R" and "R Studio"? My macbook pro just died and I need this software for a class. I also need to be able to have microsoft office.”

I’m almost certain that’s a hard No on R Studio, unless you want to run full-Linux on this (see Crouton, or dual-booting Chromebooks). Not a bad exercise if you’re so inclined, but not a straightforward option if you’re looking for the quickest way to a R environment .
