I just bought this laptop at Best Buy yesterday. I just updated to Chrome OS 53 and, lo and behold, the Google Play store (beta) option is now there in Settings and I enabled it, downloaded the Play store and started downloading apps. It might be that the fact that it still shows as beta explains why this model is not listed as having Android app compatability but, I don't care as I got what I wanted and I am satisfied with my purchase.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It is actually one of only three Chromebooks that already have access to the Play Store through the developer channel (Chromebooks have three update channels to choose from: stable, beta, and developer). When the Play Store becomes an actual feature of Chrome OS later this year the R11 will definitely be compatible.
