“If the TV is in another room from the cable box can the channel be changed with the DirecTv remote or do you have to change the channel while holding the remote in front of the cable box? If you can’t, it would not serve my needs.”

We have cable and they have an extension in the box for a IR remote so you can change the channel from the room the receiver is. We did have a bad unit at first and it wouldn’t change channel. Works fine with new one
