This is not a reciever so no it does not replace Direct or Cable box It is an extender just as if you ran a wire across the floor from your box to the TV

This unit allows you to wirelessly connect your TV receiver to your TV, using the Wireless unit like a bridge. At my house, the coax wall jack is on the opposite side of the room as the TV. Here's how I use it. Wall coax wall jack is wired via coax cable to my Cox receiver. Cox receiver is wired via HDMI to the transmitter. The transmitter sends the video & audio wirelessly across the room to the receiver. The receiver is wired via an HDMI cable to the TV. Very stable. No dropouts, no pixelization. At my house, it is as if the TV is wired to the Cox receiver via HDMI. It is *that* stable. I bought this as a temporary solution, but it is working so well, it might've become the permanent solution. Good luck with it. --HH
