• No, only the cable-direct tv set top box must be on. This assumes you have used an HDMI cable to connect from the cable box to the Actiontec transmitter and then connected the transmitter to your tv. If you connect the cable box to the TV and the TV to the transmitter, you may then need to have the TV on.

• No the source TV does not need to be on, unless you hooked it up to the output of that TV as the source. The transmitter is designed to be installed between the input of your device and the 1st TV, and then as long as your source is on, it won't matter if the 1st TV is on or not.

• Depends on the source. If you are using a DVR, only the DVR needs to be on. If coming directly from another set, yes it must be on.

• It works when the TV connected to the transmitter output is on or off. If it does not, try disconnecting power to the transmitter and receiver, connect the transmitter first with the TV on, and then connect the receiver with the TV on. The system should work, and you can turn off the TV at the transmitter. Once the connections are established, you do not have to have the TV at the transmitter on for the TV at the receiver to work.

• Actually the TV co-located with the transmitter does NOT need to be on, but the HD source device (cable box, satellite box, DVR, TiVo, etc.) does.

• We had to put the transmitter to the satellite box and not the second tv itself to get it to work, but yes, we have put the second tv on most of the time to get it to work, which is fine for whole-house game day watching.
