Sometimes a Windows update may install generic or incompatible drivers for your computer's USB ports. The ports will be able to power a device but will be unable to communicate with it. Best troubleshooting practices are to check your laptop for driver and bios updates! You may also format the drive to make sure it is using the correct file system appropriate for your needs!
