You need to buy a minutes card every 90 days. With this phone if you buy a 60 minute card for $20 you get triple minutes, so you get 180 talk minutes & 180 text messages! I like the tracphones because you don’t need a monthly plan.

There are two types of cards: one is only for smart phones, while the other works with basic phones (like this one) and smart phones. Make sure you are OK with the limited minutes you get with the basic plans before buying the phone. You buy new phone cards when you use up the minutes or you pass the time limit for using the minutes. If you update your minutes before the time limit expires, the old minutes roll over. At least that how it works at the moment.

Switched from 3G to this in 2022, could not send or receive texts, finally got answer on phone call to Tracfone that now have to buy plan that has data, text, and minutes instead of just minutes. (I still had time and minutes from old phone but that wasn't sufficient.)
