Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It does have built in speakers. I personally don't use them since I already use the BOSE companion speakers or my Astro A50 headset. The speakers are not bad for monitor speakers. I would say only use them when you have no alternative. As far as your troubles go with not hearing them. 9/10 it is usually the settings on your pc. Every time you disconnect/connect something or updates/drivers happen it will and/or can potentially reset/change your settings. So, making sure your default device is set correctly in your "Sound Settings" via Realtek/HD Audio Manager or w/e other application you are using. Easy way to check is right-click your sound icon on the bottom right of your screen on your taskbar, select "Sounds", then go to "Playback", find Dell AW2318DW, right-click that and select "Set as Default Device". Then you are solid until you disconnect/connect other sound input/output devices. You might have to "Enable" it too, same process as setting to default. Another thing too, make sure you actual volume is up on the actual monitor with it's dedicated buttons on the bottom right of the display :P . I can tell you many times, my friends and others I have known to simple have muted themselves or volume was all the way down haha. Hopefully it's not defective, but if it is, just swap it out at best buy and if its past the return/exchange date. Dell has excellent warranty on this display. I would say this though, if its just yours onboard speakers that is wrong with the device, I would just use something else for audio but that is only myself. You have 4 year warranty with dell to swap out/replace. I hope this was of some help for you.
