Use a CR2016 Coin Cell. The battery life depend of how much it’s used approximately 1-2 years of a normal use 2 or 3 recording per day.

I think there is a picture of the battery in one of the photos from purchasers on the BB website. It is supposed to be readily available at "general merchandise stores"? Maybe they mean department stores or hardware stores? I did see some prices for them, one of them was a bulk purchase for about 32 cents each. Yes you have to unscrew the compartment to replace batteries.
