This sub should handle 500watts just fine. I bought the Alpine MRV-M500 amp to power this sub (500watts @ 2ohms), excellent combo, no issues so far. Plenty of bass for realistic everyday listening. Alpine sends a little card in the amp box that says how much RMS power that specific unit put out during testing, mine said 541watts. So, yes you will get at least 500 watts. Make sure you use a quality amp wiring kit... I used Kicker's 4 gauge OFC (oxygen free copper) kit with my amp/sub setup and I haven't had any power issues - my sub plays deep and loud, the amp stays cool and my lights don't dim. Hope this helps!

I'm running that setup and it sounds great. I would buy the Alpine RUX-KNOB (might have to go to another website to purchase) for the amp to have more control over the bass boost. The jumper will be connected positive to positive and negative to negative, and then you connect your speaker wires to the outside positive and negative terminals (the subwoofer manual details the jumper config). If you don't do the jumper correct it will load the speakers at 4 OHMS and you won't get the power you want out of the amp. (it's only 300W RMS at 4 OHMS).
