Alex, Thanks for the detailed reply. I am looking to put it in my 2006 Dodge Ram.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. For Apple CarPlay to work it needs to be connected to a lightning cable that’s connected to a USB cable that the radio provides. Now, I know it may sound inconvenient. But it’s better to have it connected to Lightning for various reasons. The First one I’m gonna give you is sound. Music sounds better while connected with a cable Versus Bluetooth. Second, security. This is the way it should have always been. Learn your Siri controls and keep the hands on the wheel. If you receive a new message, you will see the notification on the screen. Just tell Siri to read the new messages and she will read them, once it finishes reading it will automatically give you the option to reply. And most important, third reason is battery. If at the end of the day you are gonna connect your iPhone to a CarPlay Head Unit wirelessly you are gonna deplete your battery in a heartbeat. So that means that you are still gonna need a charger for the car to maintain that iPhone all juiced up. Why waste from $100.00 to $200.00 more just to have wireless CarPlay and then when you arrive at your destination, if it’s not your house or place of work, to have battery issues and be crazy looking on how to charge? If wireless CarPlay would have additional features besides the wireless option I would understand. But let that being the only difference I don’t see the why. Other thing is, you can do everything with this head unit. Have a little time and read reviews about it. I have been able to do everything I needed plus more... What car and model are you thinking of installing it on?
