The width between the legs is 19.5 inches and the table top where the laptop would sit is just over 20 inches. I don't think it would be effective sitting it in top of your legs.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.i leave the legs folded, and rest it on my lap. It is not uncomfortable resting it on my lap this way. I bought it, primarily, for the fan. When legs open, distance between them is around 18". I find the laptop almost sits too high over my lap, with the legs open. I just keep them stowed, and rest it on my lap.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.It depends somewhat on how you have it set up but I’d say 19 inches at the bottom, which is the widest portion (the legs angle slightly). I think you would not have a problem if you had to have it partially on the side of your legs, but if it were on the top of your legs, I don’t think it would be very stable.
