“I have a 17" laptop - would this fit on the desk and still have room on the right hand side to work?”

This item is 20.5 inches wide, which would not give you allowable room to work.

My laptop is 16.5 inches wide and I can use it on the table. Just decrease the amount of area left for the mouse area to about 4 inches wide.

Yes it will work, I slide mine to the left so I can use the mouse.

Yes. My laptop is 17in and there's a little space left there! DEPENDING on how much space you need. The width that left for me is about 3-4 inches!

It will fit the 17" laptop but you will not have any room on the side

No real room on the right side, if your laptop is 17" or bigger. That was my concern when I bought it, and started using it. But it is ergonomically friendly.
