They appear to be stereo. I believe they say they are, but I can't recall. When you place them near each side of your head, they certainly sound like stereo.

Both. Can be used separately or paired. Sounds better paired, but really convevient as a stand alone.

I questioned this also---yet put the speakers on each side of me and sure enough, perfect 2 channel separation (played an old Beatles album---they really proved stereo (not just two mono speakers) in the old days it was new.
