“Do I need to add this device to my cell phone plan to be able to download books??? I have a kindle account but no internet except through Verizon on my phone. I am currently reading books on my cell phone & wanted a larger device.”

Hello Gail, all the Fire Tablets require Wifi to download anything to them. You could go somewhere that has Wifi and download some books and then read them where ever you want. They only need the Wifi for the initial setup and then to download your books to it. Hope that answers your questions, have a great day!
