• The easiest way to tell them apart is the 2015 HD 8 has a glossy back. The new HD 8, 2016, has a dull matte finish on the back. If you purchased it in the last 2 weeks, it should be the 2016 version. Also if you paid $89.99, then it was the new version

• look at the headphone input on the bottom. the 2016 input is close to the edge and the 2015 input is more towards the center on the bottom. just google it if still unsure.

• It should say in the description it is for the 2016 model or the new generation model.
