What I accomplished was to create a file folder on the home screen and moved all unused app icons into that folder. Pic an unused app icon. Hold your finger on the icon you chose. Drag it to another unused icon and release it over the top of the second icon. A folder will be created automatically. You can change the name ( I used the name 'not used'). Now you can drag all app icons you don't want to use into that folder. In that way, they are still available but only taking up one icon space.
